Planning a stay in Brokind and want to include nature, water and culture in your decision? Brokind offers a range of options: trails in Brokind Nature Reserve, experiences on the Kinda Canal and places of cultural and historical interest. If you’re looking for a hotel in Brokind, it can help to decide what you want to focus on during your trip first.

Trails and getting around in Brokind Nature Reserve

Brokinds gĂĄrd bus stop is 200 to 400 metres from the entrances to Brokind Nature Reserve. From Brokind, cyclists can reach the northern parts of the protected area via a shared pedestrian and cycle path. The path passes through a tunnel under National Road 34.

The Östgötaleden trail also helps you plan your route: the section between Viggeby and Sätravallen runs through Brokind Nature Reserve. The Brokind–Viggeby stage passes Brokinds sluss. The routes therefore differ: one section runs through the protected area, while the other stage passes by the lock.

Water, kayaking and swimming

You can experience Brokind Nature Reserve from a boat or kayak on the Kinda Canal. You can also explore the canal itself in your own boat; the route follows a waterway with historic locks. At Brokinds sluss, there is a small kayak landing where canoes and kayaks can be carried around the lock.

Lilla Rängen in Brokind is a swimming spot. If you’re specifically looking for a place to swim, Lilla Rängen is the clearly identified spot in Brokind; the boat and kayak experience, by contrast, relates to the canal and nature reserve. Swimming and exploring from the water are therefore different things to focus on when planning your trip.

Brokind’s cultural history

Brokinds herrgĂĄrd is a listed building and protected by special regulations. The area around Brokinds herrgĂĄrd is characterised by open farmland and oak pastures. Brokinds slott dates back to the 12th century.

At Brokinds sluss, the Kinda Canal Museum displays tools and equipment used to build the canal, as well as photographs, drawings, sketches and historical descriptions. The collection brings together objects from the canal’s construction with visual and written materials. If you’re interested in the waterway, you can learn about its construction history as well as experience the canal itself. The museum is open when the Kinda Canal is open. Check whether the canal is open before planning a visit.
