Markaryd can be considered from several perspectives when planning a trip: trails, landscape, bathing facilities and local history. If you are looking for a hotel in Markaryd, these differences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Trails, landscape and water

The illuminated trail near Sparbanksparken in Markaryd is 2.5 kilometres long and passes through beautiful, varied countryside. A considerably longer route is the 19.7-kilometre Markaryd–Traryd pilgrimage trail along Nydalaleden and S:t Birgittavägarna. It passes through forests and alongside waterways, with places to rest and reflect along the way. The different lengths give you a concrete comparison for planning: from the 2.5-kilometre trail to this longer section.

Hannabadet is one of the Municipality of Markaryd’s two bathing facilities and has heated pools. This means that, alongside the trails, swimming pools are another option to focus on.

In the wider region around Markaryd, Lagaleden extends for more than 150 kilometres. Its route runs from Lake Bolmen via the BolmĂĄn River and Lake Exen, then follows the LagaĂĄn River to Laholmsbukten. Along the route are around 30 signposted camping spots with waste bins, toilets and firewood; many also have overnight shelters. Its length and route make Lagaleden clearly different from the shorter trails described in the Markaryd area.

Hälsans stig also connects forest and waterside landscapes: birds find habitats in the forest areas along the route, and the lakes there are rich in fish. These natural features complement the description of the Markaryd–Traryd section, where forests and waterways shape the trail landscape.

Buildings and local history

Markaryds Hembygdspark is home to a former soldiers’ cottage from Ekön in Hinneryd. The building was dismantled in 1924, transported to Markaryd and rebuilt in the park. Its history can therefore be traced through several specific stages: its place of origin, Ekön; its dismantling and transport; and its reconstruction in 1924.

The smithy at Markaryds Hembygdspark contains tools and furnishings from two smithies. Some come from the smithy of estate smith Victor Leijon in Hallaryd, and others from master blacksmith Axel Johansson’s smithy in Ulvsbäck. The two names and places of origin show that the collection preserves items from different smithies.

The Ediinska paviljongen at Markaryds Hembygdspark has a history that comes with an important current caveat: the pavilion is not currently open, and its collections are being kept in safe storage. The pavilion housed a collection of around 400 pieces of furniture and art. When planning your trip, distinguish between the historical collection and visiting the pavilion as it is today.
