Horda brings together cultural history, a marked circular trail and scenic destinations outside the village. For planning your trip, the highlights can be easily distinguished: Heimatpark, the burial ground and the station house represent different chapters in the village’s history; the nature and culture trail and the destinations at Rymmen and Furen offer other points of interest. If you’re looking for a hotel in Horda, you can decide whether cultural history, nature or both should be at the heart of your trip.

Heimatpark and archaeological history

Heimatpark Horda consists of ten buildings, including a museum and a research room. The school building in the park is set up as a school museum. This means that a museum, a research room and a dedicated school museum are located side by side in the same cultural history area. Heimatpark provides the broader setting, while the school building focuses on education. This distinction helps you make sense of the different themes during your stay.

Horda Smeagård burial ground comprises 20 visible mounds and stone settings. One find from the burial ground is the upper part of an oval, double-walled bronze brooch. The Värnamo hembygdsförening keeps it; the piece is dated to around 950–1000 AD, in the late Viking Age. The burial ground and the brooch offer two different ways to explore the past: visible mounds and stone settings, and a dated artefact kept by the hembygdsförening.

The station house and local history

The station house in Horda was built in 1902 in connection with the opening of the Borås–Alvesta railway line. It is an important part of Horda’s history as a railway station village. The building therefore represents a different chapter in the village’s history from Heimatpark and the burial ground: the railway line and Horda’s development as a railway station village are its historical context.

On 10 June 2026, the old station house served as a café and meeting place. If you’re planning a visit, check the current opening arrangements before your trip.

Circular trail and landscape

The Natur- och Kulturstigen i Horda is about one kilometre long and is a marked circular trail through older pastures with natural and cultural heritage values. The trail is also called Spökrundan. Both names refer to the same route. Its approximate length, markings and circular layout make it easy to include as a short route in your day’s plans. Unlike individual historic buildings or the burial ground, this trail passes through older pastures and brings together themes of nature and culture.

Outside Horda, on the western shore of Lake Rymmen, lies Högakull Nature Reserve. There is a particularly scenic hay meadow on a steep slope down to the lake. Smålands Hawaii is also located west of Horda, by Lake Furen. The locations help distinguish the two landscape destinations: Högakull is by Rymmen, while Smålands Hawaii is by Furen.

Location and directions

Horda lies along National Road 27, just under half an hour’s drive southeast of Värnamo. This approximate driving time and direction give you a specific reference point for arriving by car. Along with the different highlights in the village, this can help you decide whether Horda suits a trip that includes cultural history, landscapes or both.
