Cultural history and landscape are at the heart of a trip to Dannäs. The area is designated as a cultural landscape of national interest for heritage conservation. Specific points of interest include the heritage park, Dannäs Church and Dannäs Manor; the Vinsta nature reserve is also located on the shore of Lake Bolmen. When planning your trip, you can therefore take in different aspects of the area—from historic architecture to forests and lakeshores.

Heritage Park, Church and Manor

Dannäs Heritage Park was inaugurated in 1954 and consists of four buildings. Dannäs Manor offers another point of reference in time: its main building was constructed in 1778. A dense avenue southwest of Dannäs Church leads to the manor. The avenue and the historic main building give the area a distinctive architectural character, while the heritage park, inaugurated in the 20th century, marks another chapter in the area's history.

Dannäs Church was probably built in the 13th century and is the oldest church in the Bolmen area. The bowl of a medieval baptismal font is still in use in the church today. The cemetery also has medieval origins. Historic details there include twin gravestones from the late 17th century, depicting stylized portraits, hourglasses and skulls. The church, gravestones and manor thus point to different periods and forms of regional cultural heritage.

Woodland Landscape and Swimming Spot

The Vinsta nature reserve is a lush deciduous forest on the shore of Lake Bolmen. Extensive terraced fields have also been identified at Vinsta. The landscape therefore brings together woodland and lakeshore with traces of earlier agricultural use. Please note that the private forest road to the nature reserve is gated. Visitors can park at Dannäs Farm and walk into the reserve via the forest road. As parking conditions may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

The small Södra Fyllen swimming spot, beside a beech forest, is also located in the vicinity of Dannäs. It has shallow water and a playground. Water conditions and facilities may change, so check them before your visit. Vinsta and Södra Fyllen offer different ways to experience nature: a deciduous forest on the lakeshore at the former, and a swimming spot with shallow water at the latter.

Summer Events and Local Offerings

Bolmendagen takes place every summer on the last Saturday in July. At the event, the Dannäs Local Heritage Association presents its activities. If you would like to plan your stay around this date, check the specific event details in advance. Also starting in late July, Vadet Farm in Torskinge, north of Dannäs, offers pick-your-own American blueberries on certain days. Available dates and quantities depend on the harvest and the year, so check the latest information before setting out.

Dannäs Waffle Café is located in the former Dannäs school, whose history dates back to 1881. Its offerings include a variety of dishes, waffles and homemade baked goods. The menu may change with the seasons. You can plan a summer stay around several distinct occasions: Bolmendagen, seasonal pick-your-own fruit or a visit to the café. These are separate events and offerings, so check each one individually.

Getting to Dannäs

Dannäs is easiest to reach by car, bus or bicycle. Regional buses operated by Jönköpings länstrafik run between Värnamo and Dannäs. If you travel by bus, check the timetable before your journey. When choosing when to stay, you can also consider whether historic sites, the landscape around Lake Bolmen or one of the seasonal summer offerings matters most to you.
