Discover Bredaryd
Accommodation in Bredaryd
Bredaryd offers starting points for a trip shaped by how you arrive, local history or nature. When planning, you can first consider which of these priorities matters to you and whether a particular date will shape your visit. This makes it easier to factor in the different sides of the town when choosing your stay.
Getting to Bredaryd
Bredaryd lies on National Road 27 and Road 153, and can be reached by car or bus. There is also a rail connection: Krösatågen trains stop at Bredaryd station or halt on the route between Halmstad and Jönköping/Nässjö. If you plan to travel by train, check the timetable in advance. This lets you take the town’s transport links into account when planning your trip, without assuming a train journey independent of actual departure times.
Local heritage park and town history
Bredaryd Local Heritage Park was founded in 1938 and includes several buildings dating from the early 19th to the early 20th century. The collection includes two cottages, one of which has two storeys, as well as a drying kiln, a parish storehouse and Pelle Nyman’s workshop. It also includes an industrial museum, a sawmill, a smithy, a church stable and an exhibition room. The variety of buildings gives visitors a broad insight into the historic complex, rather than limiting its history to a single house.
If you would like to visit the buildings maintained by the Bredaryd local heritage association, contact its chair, Katarina Landin, in advance on 070-2647654. This allows you to arrange your visit before you arrive. Bredaryd Church was built in 1863, replacing an older medieval church. The triumphal cross and altarpiece come from the old church: Erik Sköld restored both in 1937–1938, after which they were installed in the church interior of the present-day church. The church thus brings together the building’s own history and furnishings from its predecessor.
The chapel also has its own historical role: it was formerly used as a mortuary. A weekly service is held in the chapel every Tuesday at 6 pm throughout the year. As dates and times can change, check the time before your visit. Another event in local life is Bredaryds marknad, an annual market held in the centre of town. Numerous exhibitors and visitors come from near and far; event dates vary, so it is advisable to check the date before your trip.
Nature destinations and activities
The Heligsjö outdoor recreation area is just outside Bredaryd. There is a walking path and a mountain bike trail around the lake. West of Bredaryd, near the village of Hamra, lies the Fågelsjön Draven nature reserve, which may be better known as a birdwatching area. It has two birdwatching towers and a 9 km hiking trail around the lake. The two areas offer different experiences: Heligsjö focuses on walking and mountain biking by the lake, while Fågelsjön Draven’s protected status, birdwatching towers and stated trail length provide useful guidance for an outing.
For winter planning, Bredaryd’s illuminated running and cross-country ski trail network is also relevant. It is generally converted into ski trails in winter, weather permitting. Weather conditions are therefore an important factor if you want to plan your trip around cross-country skiing.
Bredaryd sports hall has a squash court with two courts. Both can be booked through Bredaryd Squash; confirm booking options before you arrive. As another option, Wärdshuset Bredaryd offers food and drink experiences. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose how to balance local history, outdoor activities, sports and food and drink.
