When looking for a hotel in Mulseryd, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay. The church village, milling history, Komosse and the waterways offer different points of interest. The oldest surviving parts of Mulseryds kyrka date from the Middle Ages; Mulseryds kvarn is signposted, and a further sign at the sawmill site downstream provides information about the mill and sawmill. Komosse can be reached via the Köttkulla–Mulseryd road; the Björnöleden is a circular trail just over four kilometres long and runs mostly along boardwalks. A birdwatching tower on Lilla Björnö can be reached via a connecting boardwalk.

Church Village and Building History

Mulseryds kyrkby lies in the northern part of a broad valley south of Mulserydssjön. The oldest surviving parts of Mulseryds kyrka date from the Middle Ages. Two distinct attractions come together here when choosing a place to visit: a scenic setting and a clear connection to medieval building history.

Mill and Sawmill

Mulseryds kvarn and the sawmill site also add to the area’s cultural appeal. Mulseryds kvarn is signposted; a further sign at the sawmill site a little downstream provides information about the mill and sawmill. While the church is notable for its surviving medieval building elements, the signs identify the mill and sawmill as distinct cultural-history attractions.

Komosse and Trails

Komosse covers 47 square kilometres and is considered one of Europe’s finest wetlands. The area can be reached via the Köttkulla–Mulseryd road, which runs across the bog complex.

The Björnöleden is a circular trail just over four kilometres long and runs mostly along boardwalks. There is a birdwatching tower on Lilla Björnö, accessible via a connecting boardwalk. The trail’s length gives an indication of how far a walk covers, while the boardwalks define its character. The birdwatching tower, by contrast, is a specific destination with access via a boardwalk.

Waterways and Fishing

Mulserydssjön and Elsabosjön have different geographical points of reference. Mulseryds kyrkby lies south of Mulserydssjön; Elsabosjön is about five kilometres southwest of Mulseryd, on the eastern edge of Komosse, and belongs to the Nissan river system. Helgaboån is designated as being of national importance for nature and fishing. This distinction is useful for orientation: Elsabosjön is identified by its location and connection to the Nissan system, while Helgaboån is noted for its importance to nature and fishing.

For anglers, the relevant waterway is what matters. Digital fishing permits for Mulserydssjön Fvof are available online through iFiske. The Fvof offers free fishing to children and young people up to and including the age of 15, subject to the area’s fishing regulations. The age limit includes 15-year-olds. Check local regulations and current permit information before fishing.
