When looking for a hotel in Klintehamn, your travel interests may help you decide. You can combine your stay with hiking, history and active pursuits, including the Pilgrimsleden Klinte–Fröjel, the coastal walk between Fröjel and Klintehamn, Klinte Church, running and mountain biking trails in the Klintehamns motionsområde, and the Högt & Lågt Gotland adventure park just outside the town. The activities vary in landscape, trail length and type, which you can take into account when planning your trip.

On foot: the Pilgrims’ Path and coastal walk

The Pilgrimsleden Klinte–Fröjel is about 8 km long and rich in herbs and birdlife. Near Klinte Church, the trail passes through a beech forest. With a little luck, you may spot the rare Storsyssla (large white helleborine) there. Along with the hike, this route offers specific nature highlights for those interested in plants and birdlife.

The Klinte and Fröjel Hembygdsled offers a different experience: a nature and cultural walk along the scenic coast between Fröjel Church and Klintehamn. Along the way, it passes several historic sites and memorials, as well as pastures where animals graze. Dogs must be kept on a leash on this trail. The route thus combines coastal scenery and historic landmarks with a clear rule for dog walkers.

The architectural history of Klinte Church

The present building of Klinte Church was constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries. In the 14th century, the sacristy, chancel and nave were replaced with Gothic elements. Around 1270, the church received its painted chancel vault; the triumphal cross was made in the 15th century. The building and furnishings therefore span several centuries. For travellers interested in culture, they offer a focus in their own right alongside the hiking trails and landscape.

Running and mountain biking trails

The Klintehamns motionsområde has two trails for different activities. The illuminated Barkan is 2.5 km long and intended for running and walking. There is also a signposted 5 km mountain bike trail, designed for both younger and older cyclists. Barkan is therefore half the length of the mountain bike trail, and the two trails also differ in how they can be used. You can first decide whether you would rather run, walk or mountain bike, then choose a suitable trail length.

Adventure park and practical travel information

The Högt & Lågt Gotland adventure park is just outside Klintehamn and has six obstacle courses at different heights and levels of difficulty. A ticket is valid for three hours; during that time, you can climb the courses as much as you like. Opening hours vary by season, so check whether the park is open on your planned visit date.

You can get to the park on bus route 10 to the “Varvsholm” stop; from there, it is a five-minute walk. Route numbers and service frequency may change, so it is a good idea to check the connection before travelling. This lets you plan the journey and ticket duration separately: the bus connection covers the trip to the park, while the three-hour ticket covers your time on the courses.
