Discover Mo: History, mountain biking and Florsjön
Accommodation in Mo
Mo is a destination where medieval church history, cycling and activities on Florsjön offer different ways to explore the area. The town lies on Swedish National Road 50, about 15 kilometres west of Söderhamn. Visitors interested in culture can discover traces of Mo’s old church and former linen mill; the Mohed MTB arena and Florsjön add sporting and water-based activities to the picture. When planning your stay, you can consider which of these aspects matter most to you.
Church history and historic traces
Mo’s old medieval church was demolished in 1820; a ruin of the church remains in Kyrkbyn. At the beginning of the 19th century, Mo’s church was moved to its new site because of the Flors linen mill. In the 18th century, the Flors linen factory in Mo was a textile mill that supplied damask fabrics to the royal court. The church’s relocation and the former textile production are therefore among the town’s historic themes. Mo’s church also features a chancel painting by Uno Vallman.
Mohed’s history is also connected with the Hälsinge Regiment: from 1689 to 1908, the regiment used the town as a gathering and assembly place. A memorial stone from 1908 in Mohed, Mo, commemorates the former camp site. The church ruin, the painting and the memorial stone represent different aspects of local history—from medieval church architecture and art to military use.
Cycling at the Mohed MTB arena
The Mohed MTB arena offers trail riding on terrain with varying conditions and levels of difficulty. There are no purpose-built trails in the forest; most of the routes consist of natural paths and forest roads. The arena also has a skills park with a 400-metre-long flow trail. The information thus describes both the character and difficulty of the routes; the flow trail is specified by length. In summer 2023, the Söderhamns Skateboardförening built a skateboard ramp in Mohed.
Florsjön: swimming and water skiing
Söderhamn Municipality lists Florsjön among its public swimming spots. In addition to Moheds Camping, the lake has a family-friendly bathing area with a gently sloping beach. Moheds Camping is in a scenic location on the shore of Florsjön. The Moheds vattenskidklubb also offers the opportunity to water-ski on the lake. Swimming at the beach and water skiing with the club are therefore two distinct water-based activities at Florsjön.
You can clearly distinguish the options when planning your trip: church history and historic memorial sites, cycling at the MTB arena, or activities on the water. If you are considering a hotel stay in Mo, you can decide which of these aspects will shape your trip before searching.
