Art in former industrial buildings, traces of working life and routes along the Ljusnan give a trip to Ljusne several possible focuses. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay here, you can consider whether you would mainly like to experience art and history, spend time outdoors or combine the two. The places and activities vary considerably, from exhibitions and a graffiti wall to walking paths, paddling and fishing.

Art and industrial heritage

Konstkraft Ljusne is housed in two buildings. They feature wooden sculptures by artist Lennart Plahn. On the upper floor of the power station building, a permanent exhibition of his life’s work has been on display since opening in 2020. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check visiting options in advance. Konstkraft also includes a 103-metre-long graffiti wall, accessible around the clock every day; check the latest information before you arrive. In the summer season, Konstkraft holds Paint Jams where everyone can try graffiti. Ask about dates before visiting.

The Bruksmuseum i Ljusne tells the story of the lives and work of Ljusne’s workers around the turn of the 20th century. Ask the museum directly for current opening hours. At the Ljusne hyttmuseum, you can see fire-fighting equipment made in Ljusne, as well as a 19th-century ore crusher. The museum also has a fine forge that operates on certain days; check the operating days in advance. The two museums offer different perspectives on local industrial history: one focuses on working life, the other on specific equipment and technology.

Ljusne kyrka also offers a distinct point of interest in the area’s cultural history. It was inaugurated in 1896 and built in a style that is unusually rare in Sweden. Inside, brown wood and numerous carved columns shape the impression. Visits are possible by telephone appointment. Near Ljusne is also Lennart Plahn’s sagoskog, with carved wooden artworks and wooden figures by the artist from Ljusne. Check access to the sagoskog before you arrive.

The promenade and paths along the Ljusnan

The Ljusne promenade passes through Bruksparken and runs along the Ljusnan River. The park and river have picturesque stretches. The route also passes the former chain factory and power station, now home to Konstkraft Ljusne. For a longer walk, you can cross the road bridge to Ljusne harbour and continue towards the pilot station. Bruksparken has a boules court and several benches with tables.

The local description gives Ljusne torg bus stop as the stop for getting to the promenade. There is parking by the promenade; the area near Ljusnefjärden is suggested as an option. Check local information before setting out. The promenade and its longer option offer different destinations: Bruksparken and the river define the described route, while the extension crosses the road bridge to the harbour and continues towards the pilot station.

Paddling and fishing

The Ljusne paddling tour has launch sites on the north bank of the Ljusnan in Ljusne and on the south bank at Ljusnefors Camping. Both sites have parking and suitable launch areas. The route passes Lillgrytan, which has a small lighthouse building; a footbridge connects the island to the mainland. Before setting out, check local conditions for access and launching.

Fishing is also an activity in Ljusne. Salmon and trout fishing is possible downstream of the power station. Ljusne Sportfiskeklubb manages the lower Ljusnan from the Höljebro kraftverk weir to the freshwater boundary at the sea; its focus in sport fishing is sea trout. The short-term fishing area covers about nine kilometres of the lower Ljusnan and is divided into three sections. Before fishing, check the current rules and access information.

Cross-country skiing in Hömyra

Hömyra, near Ljusne, has floodlit cross-country ski trails measuring 1.6 and 2.5 kilometres. Facilities include a waxing cabin and changing rooms. Lighting and trail grooming are seasonal, so check conditions before your visit. For your planned outing, the two trail lengths of 1.6 and 2.5 kilometres offer a clear guide. Together with the seasonal Paint Jams, the promenade and activities by the river, they provide a range of options to suit your travel interests.
