Riba-Roja De Túria lies on the banks of the Turia, in the heart of the Turia Natural Park. The river landscape and trails meet Visigothic archaeology here, along with the history of water supply, mills and washhouses. When planning your trip, you may want to focus mainly on riverside routes, historical collections or culinary events.

Trails and activities on the Turia

The Ruta Verde starts at the Puente Viejo, also known as the Puente del Conde. It follows the right bank through a riverside landscape, passing rest areas, monumental trees and bridges. The Ruta Roja offers a different planning option: this hiking route starts at Masía Traver metro station, making it possible to travel without your own vehicle. Check transit connections and route conditions before setting out.

Kayak trips on the Turia are offered through the natural park area, with routes of 5, 8 and 12 kilometres. The three distances give you a concrete way to compare the length of the trip. Check availability and river conditions before booking.

Bridges, water and Visigothic heritage

The Puente Viejo, also known as the Puente del Conde, has been documented since 1548. Historically, it served pedestrians, the transport of agricultural produce and goods, and the movement of livestock across the Turia. The Cisterna was built opposite the Castillo to supply the people of Riba-Roja de Túria with river water. Together, these two structures represent different aspects of local history: crossing the river and supplying water.

The Llavaor Vell also tells a story of everyday life in the past. It is the oldest and only surviving washhouse in the municipality. During its restoration in 2010, its original structure and features were preserved. Pla de Nadal represents a different historical period: this Visigothic residential villa dates from the 7th century and is one of the few surviving examples of Visigothic civil architecture in Europe.

The MUPLA displays more than a hundred sculptures discovered at the Pla de Nadal archaeological site. The collection at the Museo de Cerámica del Castillo includes medieval ceramics from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries; the pieces come from archaeological excavations at the Castillo. Together, the collections offer different ways to explore the finds and the history of the area.

Another historic building is the Casa de la Molinera, a grain mill dating from the 15th century. Recognised as an item of ethnological heritage, it is open to visitors. The exhibition shows the daily life of the miller and her family, with examples of flour, administrative records and office items. The museum therefore connects the history of the building with specific insights into work and family life.

Planning a museum visit

The MUPLA has an accessible visitor route with a lift and ramps. A model of the Pla de Nadal palace is available for blind visitors. An induction loop is available by prior arrangement, and adapted toilets are also provided. Confirm accessibility details before your visit if they are important to you.

Local cuisine and event dates

The annual Banquete Visigodo combines a tasting of the Menú Visigodo with a theatrical visit to the Pla de Nadal archaeological site. The Certamen de arroces is also held annually. The local rice dish is presented in collaboration with participating restaurants through a cooking demonstration and tasting. If you would like to include either event in your trip, check the dates in advance.

The Menú Visigodo draws on Visigothic products and cooking techniques. It includes grains, spicy dressings, roasted meat with vegetables, tubers and spiced fruit. While this menu draws on historical ingredients and methods of preparation, the local rice dish takes centre stage at the Certamen de arroces. The participating restaurants may change.
