For your trip planning in La Cuevarruz, cultural sites and hiking opportunities offer different points of interest. For the routes, specific information about their course, landscape and length is helpful, while the buildings have their own historical associations. This allows you to decide first whether your focus is on local history, nature or a particular hiking option.

Cultural Sites and Historical Associations

La Cuevarruz is listed as a “Núcleo Histórico Tradicional” (Traditional Historic Centre) in the provincial catalogue for cultural protection, published on 16 April 2025. The Ermita de San José houses a Baroque carving attributed to Ignacio de Vergara. Access to the interior may require local arrangements. If you include this site in your plans, take this possible access requirement into account.

An old iron windmill stands at the entrance to La Cuevarruz. It is privately owned and currently out of operation; ownership and condition may change. Beside the Fuente-abrevadero stands a small pelota court dating from 1866. Together, these buildings offer different insights: the chapel is associated with a Baroque work, the mill is a rural structure that is privately owned and currently unused, and the pelota court has a specific year attached to it.

Hiking Routes and Route Planning

The GR 37 E04 stage from La Yesa to La Torre passes through La Cuevarruz and Casas de Arriba, as well as impressive juniper forests. Its quality status is also important when planning: the most recently reported quality inspection rates the stage as “condicionado” (conditional) because of identified deficiencies in the waymarking and, in part, route continuity. Until the deficiencies are remedied, it is recommended that you follow the route particularly carefully. Check the latest route information before setting out.

A route from La Cuevarruz to La Torre passes through the Sabinar, by cereal and almond fields and the abandoned settlements of Pozo Marín and Cañada Pastores, before reaching La Torre. Part of it follows the PR-CV331, the Sendero de las Travinas. The section between La Cuevarruz and La Torre is also offered as one of three shorter routes for those who do not wish to cover the entire route.

Information about these options helps with different planning decisions: for the GR stage, note its rating due to waymarking and continuity deficiencies; for the shorter section, the key point is the option of not covering the entire route. This lets you take the offered route format and the information about each trail into account when making your decision.

Circular Routes and Natural Areas

A 12.94 km circular route leads from La Cuevarruz to Alto de Sancho. It reaches the Sancho geodetic marker at 1,512 m and passes Charca la Serranía and Barranco de Virgen. The distance, elevation and named points along the way provide specific reference points for planning the tour. If you want to choose a circular route based on its length, this is a clear starting point.

Another circular route passes through Barranco de las Cuevas del Agua, which is noted for its geological formations and rugged landscape. The description of this route therefore has a different focus from the tour to Alto de Sancho, with its geodetic marker and named waypoints. Cueva Negra is designated as a notable natural area in Cuevarruz. The options thus offer different natural features to consider: geological formations in the ravine and a designated natural area.

Choose the Type of Accommodation You Want

El Cau dels Somnis offers country houses and apartments in La Cuevarruz and Corcolilla. If you are specifically looking for a hotel, check the type of accommodation when comparing options: a country house and an apartment are different types of accommodation from a hotel. This lets you focus your search on the type of accommodation you want for your trip, while considering the activities described as a separate part of your planning.
