San Martín De La Vega offers a range of themes to help you plan your trip: nature in the Parque Regional del Sureste, architectural history in the town, memorial sites related to the Battle of the Jarama, and a theme park. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can start by considering which of these options best suits your travel interests.

Nature in the Parque Regional del Sureste

San Martín De La Vega is one of 16 municipalities whose territory lies partly within the protected Parque Regional del Sureste. On the edge of town, on the M-506 towards Arganda, is Parque Tierno Galván, also known as Parque de los patos. It was created from a former gravel pit and opened in 1983. The park is part of the Parque Regional del Sureste and features a deep lagoon.

Native plants are found along the shore. Birds that can be spotted include mallards, Eurasian coots, robins and greylag geese. The lagoon, shoreline vegetation and the species mentioned give the park a distinctive natural character.

Another wetland is located in Soto del Tamarizo: the Reserva Ornitológica Los Albardales covers approximately eight hectares and is part of the Parque Regional del Sureste. Its wetland provides numerous bird species with places to feed, rest and breed. If you’d like to include the reserve in your plans, check locally in advance for access options.

Architectural history in and around town

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Natividad de Nuestra Señora is a religious building dating from the 16th century. Its rectangular floor plan, single nave and flat-ended chancel form a clear, compact layout. Details of its floor plan and interior offer specific points of interest if you’re interested in historic architecture.

The Casa-Palacio de Gózquez de Arriba is part of the associated complex of the Monastery of El Escorial and was built in the 16th century on the orders of Philip II. Four wings form a courtyard that is partially open to the east. The vaulted cellars of the main building were once used to store wine jars. The complex is privately owned; if you’re considering a visit, check in advance whether access is possible.

Memorial sites and leisure attractions

The Parque Histórico de la Batalla del Jarama is a joint initiative of Arganda del Rey, Morata de Tajuña, San Martín De La Vega and Rivas Vaciamadrid. Various routes explore the heritage of the Spanish Civil War and the remains of the battle. The participating municipalities provide information about fortifications and remains, as well as interpretive activities organized throughout the year. San Martín De La Vega has some of the most significant remnants of these battles. If you’re interested, check the dates of the activities in advance.

Parque Warner Madrid is located in the municipality of San Martín De La Vega, around 30 kilometres from the centre of Madrid. It has five themed areas: Hollywood Boulevard, Movie World Studios, DC Super Heroes World, Old West Territory and Cartoon Village. There are 34 attractions in total, with varying levels of intensity for all age groups. The different themed areas and intensity levels offer practical guidance when planning a leisure activity for a range of interests.
