Cequeliños offers two distinct highlights for planning your trip: a series of notable buildings and a rafting route on the Río Miño. Architectural points of interest include Pazo La Moreira, the Church of San Miguel, the Antigua Escuela de Cequeliños and other pazo buildings. On the river, a 10 km route runs from Cequeliños to Arbo.

Architectural heritage and historic ensembles

Pazo La Moreira is distinguished by a large German stone tower, two wrought-iron balconies with a coat of arms on the main façade, and an old stone chimney. Two lookout-like features at the corners complete its silhouette. The pazo also includes a rectangular chapel built of ashlar stone, with a gabled roof. Alongside the main façade, the chapel and its distinctive form are also a focus; architecture enthusiasts can enjoy comparing the different structures.

The pazo has six outbuildings, including a winery, a dovecote, two hórreos—one of them with four sections—and a well. A hórreo is a traditional granary; the reference to four sections gives a more precise sense of the layout of one of the two hórreos. Together with the main building and chapel, this draws attention to the entire complex, not just its façade.

The Iglesia Parroquial San Miguel de Cequeliños is dated approximately to the 17th century. It is a single-nave stone building with tiled roofs, located at the edge of the settlement in a spot with good views over the valley. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; this gives San Miguel a different architectural character from La Moreira, with its chapel and outbuildings. The views over the valley also connect the church to its landscape.

The Antigua Escuela de Cequeliños consists of two school buildings and a house for the teacher. As a three-part complex, it offers a distinctive facet of rural architecture: the teacher’s house is part of the ensemble alongside the school buildings.

The architecture of Casa Solariega en Mandelos is marked by a stone chimney with four crenellations on top and a gallery supported by columns. Two architectural features can be distinguished here: the crenellations sit atop the chimney, while the columns support the gallery. Casa de Burines consists of a main building, two outbuildings and two hórreos. Pazo-Casa Grande de Alemparte is a civil heritage property of the pazo type in Cequeliños. Pazo de Xil y Puga is also a civil heritage property of the pazo type; it is located in Mandelos, in Cequeliños.

Rafting on the Río Miño

The rafting route on the Río Miño runs from Cequeliños to Arbo and is 10 km long. Unlike the individual buildings, it is a route with named endpoints—a distinct activity to consider when planning your trip. Availability and booking conditions may change; check both with the provider in advance.
