If you’re looking for a hotel in Lalín, the town’s culinary, cultural and nature-related attractions can guide your trip planning. The Fiesta del Cocido, museums and routes offer different starting points for a stay. Which ones take centre stage depends on whether you’re especially interested in Galician cuisine, history or landscapes.

Cocido tradition and the festival

The Fiesta del Cocido de Lalín is one of Galicia’s festivals of international tourist interest. At its heart is Cocido de Lalín, which includes cuts of pork such as lacón, pig’s ear and ribs, as well as chorizos. The accompaniments include cachelos and grelos and/or cabbage. The ingredients and alternatives listed show the role the dish plays in the festival’s theme.

In 2026, Mes del Cocido was scheduled to run from mid-January to mid-February; the exact dates can vary from year to year. The programme for the main day in 2026 was set to include the opening of the Carpa do Cocido on Campo da Feira. A procession with floats, comparsas and charangas was also due to pass through the streets of Lalín. If you’d like to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates and programme for your chosen year.

Museums and manor-house culture

The Museo Municipal de Ramón María Aller Ulloa is located in the astronomer’s former home. It preserves his study, furniture, instruments, documents, photographs and numerous books from his personal library. The combination of the home and the preserved items from his work gives the museum a personal connection to the astronomer’s story. Since 1993, the exhibition hall has hosted the International Biennial Pinto Laxeiro in odd-numbered years.

The Casa do Patrón Museum offers another perspective on cultural history, with more than 4,000 ethnographic items collected across Galicia. The size of the collection and its focus on Galicia set it apart from the personal library and work-related items at the Museo Ramón María Aller Ulloa. The Pazo de Liñares adds to this perspective as a Baroque-style building and a representative example of manor-house culture.

Routes and landscapes in Lalín

The PR-G 210 Ruta do Castro de Doade is 15.7 kilometres long and runs through Lalín. It starts and finishes at Casa do Patrón in Codesedo, follows both banks of the Asneiro River and its tributary Lebozán, and leads to the prehistoric site of Castro de Doade. Its length and named destinations offer specific points of reference if you’re considering including this route in your trip plans. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Another route option is the Roteiro Dos Pazos e Ponte Taboada. It starts in Lalín, passes the Igrexa de Donsión and the manor houses of Bendoiro, Eirixe and Liñares, and ends with views at Ponte de Taboada. The two routes offer different descriptions: for the PR-G 210, the length, riverbanks and archaeological site are specified; the Roteiro focuses on several church and manor-house stops, as well as the views at the end.

Nature destinations also have different highlights. Fraga de Catasós is a Galician natural monument and part of Galicia’s catalogue of remarkable trees. The oaks, and especially the chestnut trees, reach 30 metres in height and five metres in circumference there. Fraga de Catasós is four kilometres from Lalín, in the direction of Ourense on the N-535 road.

Carballeira de Barcia is a stand of centuries-old oaks. Their arrangement makes the trees appear perfectly aligned from any viewpoint. Squirrels may be seen among the foliage, although sightings are not guaranteed. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between the natural monument with its remarkable tree dimensions and the oak grove with its distinctive arrangement.
