Accommodation in Els Pallaresos
Els Pallaresos combines the architectural history associated with Josep M. Jujol with a rural setting. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the town, these features can help you decide whether the destination suits your plans: distinctive buildings from different periods, traditional agriculture, a hiking route, and a historical reenactment event. For families, there is also a recreation area for children.
Architectural history: Jujol and Sant Salvador
Casa Bofarull is a former masia that Josep M. Jujol renovated from 1914 onward. Its defining features include a tower topped by an angel and a gallery with Moorish-style arches. This brings two aspects together: the house’s former identity as a masia and the elements designed by Jujol.
The former town hall and former schools were converted into today’s Centre Jujol, which commemorates the architect’s work in Els Pallaresos. Unlike Casa Bofarull, the focus here is not a former estate but the repurposing of two municipal buildings and their commemorative purpose.
Jujol’s work on Casa Andreu Fortuny can be divided into two periods: he remodeled the house between 1920 and 1927, and again in 1944. The first floor has windows with curved lintels and balustrades, while the ground floor features a distinctive three-part balcony. A fountain dating from 1863 is also built into the façade.
The parish church of Sant Salvador is a Baroque building in transition to Neoclassicism; it was consecrated in 1796. Jujol worked on the church between 1944 and 1947. His interventions included the tabernacle and the side altars, which feature notable wrought ironwork. The dates mark different milestones: 1796 is the year of the consecration, while 1944 to 1947 marks Jujol’s work.
Landscape and agriculture
Els Pallaresos is sheltered by the coastal foothills. Half of the municipal area is uncultivated and covered with pine forests and garrigue. Traditional dryland farming includes hazelnuts, almonds, carob, olives, and grapevines. The rural landscape therefore encompasses both the vegetation on uncultivated land and traditional crops.
Hiking route and wayfinding
A hiking route from Camp de Tarragona station to Tarragona station passes through Els Pallaresos. It follows tracks and trails between hazelnut groves and forests. At the beginning of the stretch between Els Pallaresos and Coll del Mas Roig, wayfinding can be confusing. If you include the route in your plans, keep this specific section in mind.
Event and recreation area
Els Pallaresos 1900 is a Modernist historical reenactment event in Camp de Tarragona. The series has been running since 2020 and also includes an edition in 2026. This offers a different format alongside the architectural history: history is reenacted here. Parc Infantil de la Font de la Mina is a recreation area for children, adding an expressly child-focused feature to the cultural attractions.
