Tiurana combines a rich local history with Romanesque chapels, a botanical garden and routes for hiking and mountain biking. If you’re looking for a hotel in Tiurana, these varied themes can shape your choice of destination: culture and the history of the old village sit alongside nature watching and trails with their own cultural destinations.

Local History and Relocated Buildings

The former settlement of Tiurana was completely submerged beneath the waters of the Rialb Reservoir; the new town emerged in 2007. The current guided tours, “Tiurana monumental,” take visitors to relocated elements from the vanished old village and to the Romanesque chapel of Mare de Déu de Solés, which contains Baroque wall paintings.

Another Romanesque chapel, Sant Ermengol, dates from the 11th century. The relocated façade of the parish church of Sant Pere Apòstol was restored in 1980. Its features include a round-arched doorway and a central oculus. The Trialera de Solés was an old path linking the former village with the chapel of Mare de Déu de Solés.

Sculpture and the history of crafts are also among Tiurana’s cultural themes. El Foc del Pelegrí is a sculpture created to convey the warmth of the people of Tiurana to visitors. The Museu dels Antics Oficis is an open-air area with tools used by earlier generations for farming in rural areas.

Botanical Garden and Rialb Reservoir

The Tiurana Botanical Garden features more than 80 special species of trees, shrubs and plants. On a walk, you can watch birds, butterflies, insects, bumblebees and bees, and smell aromatic plants. The garden also showcases Col de Tiurana and Bitxo de Tiurana, as well as the bean varieties mongeta d'emparrar and mongeta de ganxet, which were once grown here.

The Rialb Reservoir was created by a dam located between the municipalities of Tiurana and La Baronia de Rialb. The story of the former settlement and the reservoir’s waters also feature as themes on the Tiuranatura walking routes.

Tiuranatura Hiking Trails and Mountain Biking

The Tiuranatura routes are geolocated and can be followed on Wikiloc or downloaded as GPX tracks. The walking routes offer a way to discover wild plants, wildlife and the waters of the Rialb Reservoir. Destinations include Romanesque chapels, the Sant Sebastià wayside shrine oratory and remains from the Spanish Civil War.

When choosing a hiking route, consider their varied character: Tiurana’s walking routes include short, steep sections and genuine trialera trails. Some of the latter are shared by mountain bikes and motorcycles. Route RS3 Ruta de les trialeres descends along the Trialera de la Drecera and climbs up the Trialera de Solés.

The Rialb BTT Tour starts and ends in Tiurana. It follows numerous paths and tracks, with views of the Rialb Reservoir and the mountain ranges in the northeast of Noguera and the south of Alt Urgell. A notice from the Diputació de Lleida dated 8 May 2026 also describes a zip line over the reservoir, about one kilometre long, with an elevation difference of around 100 metres and a height of 30 metres above the water.

Festivals and Special Activities

The recurring Astronòmic Starlight Tiurana festival was founded in 2020. Its multi-day astronomy programme includes observations of the sun and night sky, guided tours, photography workshops, a mobile planetarium and family workshops. Activities vary with each edition.

At the Festival de Contes, stories are performed in Tiurana’s streets and at its landmark locations. It is held on the third weekend in August, or on the fourth if August has five weekends. The programme varies from year to year. The Festival Itinera offers concerts on Tiurana’s municipal stage on Saturdays in July; dinner on the Gastrobar Solés terrace is available as an option. Check the exact dates before your trip.
