Agramunt: Art, Turrón and Visual Poetry
Accommodation in Agramunt
For a stay in Agramunt, culture and local history offer different points of interest: the Sió River, visual poetry, church architecture, contemporary art, and the tradition of turrón and chocolate. Each place and theme has its own focus, from the riverside park to the guided tour of the historic center.
The Sió and visual poetry
Parc de Riella is located at the entrance to Agramunt, in the Sió’s natural riverbed. The park features a figure-eight walking route with ten compositions based on the poetic work of Viladot. This connects a visit to the park with individual poetic works encountered along the route.
Lo Pardal also invites visitors to explore visual poetry through an engaging, sensory approach to viewing the works. The venue was expanded into the “Casa de la Poesia Visual” and displays visual poems, poetic objects, and three-dimensional works. If you are interested in different forms of visual poetry, the focus here is not only on poems but also on objects and three-dimensional works.
Architecture and contemporary art
The Church of Santa Maria offers a specific insight into the area’s architecture: it has three naves with pointed barrel vaults. The three naves divide the church interior into longitudinal sections, while the barrel vaults shape the ceilings. These two clear features make it possible to understand the building’s design rather than viewing it only as historical architecture in general terms.
Works by Josep Guinovart are on permanent display at Espai Guinovart. In addition to visiting the collection, the contemporary art center offers theater, workshops, and conferences. Individual activities may change; if you plan to attend a specific event, check the dates in advance.
Turrón, chocolate, and local history
The Museu del Torró i la Xocolata presents the history of Agramunt’s turrón and chocolate, as well as the development of the Torrons Vicens company. The exhibits include audiovisual presentations, historic equipment and machinery, and a reconstruction of the turrón workshop used by the Vicens family in 1933. The history of the product and the company come together here. The exact presentation may change; if a particular exhibit matters to you, check before your visit.
The Fira del Torró i la Xocolata a la Pedra is also part of the history of turrón. It began in 1988 as a turrón market and developed into a meeting place for the confectionery world and for high-quality agricultural and food products. If you would like to include the Fira in your travel plans, check the event dates against your travel dates in advance.
Guided tour, remembrance, and cycling route
The Ruta dels Espais de Memòria d’Agramunt includes the shelter at the Els Salats airfield, the Pou del Gel shelter, the air-raid shelter at the Church of Santa Maria, and Era de Cal Petitó. Access arrangements vary by site, so check the conditions for each stop before visiting.
The guided tour “Endinsa't a Agramunt” lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and takes visitors along the most distinctive streets and squares of the historic center. Check the tour dates and conditions before your trip. For cycling tourism, the Via Verda de la Vall del Sió has a 600-meter section connecting Agramunt’s urban area with the existing route; check route conditions before setting out. The tour gives an approximate time frame, while the Via Verda specifies the length of a particular section—two different kinds of information for your planning.
