Senterada lies at the entrance to the so-called Vall Fosca in the Catalan Pyrenees, near the Flamisell River. The themes for a stay range from historic buildings and archaeological heritage to outdoor activities. Points of interest include Romanesque churches, a dolmen and the history of a former blanket factory; cycling and climbing routes, as well as birdwatching, add to this cultural perspective.

Routes and activities

The municipality has mountain biking routes of varying difficulty. The guide “Senterada Roca i Aigua” suggests nine climbing routes, also with varying levels of difficulty. If you are comparing activities, these are two distinct areas: mountain biking on the one hand and climbing on the other. El Camí dels Sants adds another perspective on the heritage: the route suggests circular trails for visiting churches and hermitages in Senterada and neighboring municipalities.

Birdwatching and nature

Birdwatching also has specific points of interest in Senterada. Additional feeding stations (PAS) have been set up at Sant Roc to observe carrion-eating birds. “La Travessa dels Voltors” suggests observation points; there are also two observatories in Senterada. In addition, the surrounding area is favorable for fishing, particularly for river trout. Alongside the routes, nature observation and the abundance of fish are therefore also themes to consider when planning a trip.

Churches and heritage

Santa Maria de GrĂ cia is located roughly in the center of Senterada and has Romanesque origins; elements of its medieval past have also been preserved. The Ermita de Sant VĂctor de Senterada is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. Formerly a cemetery chapel, it stands on a rocky outcrop above the village. Santa Maria de GrĂ cia and Sant VĂctor thus offer different points of interest: the former has a roughly central location, Romanesque origins and medieval elements, while the latter has heritage status, a former function and an elevated location.

Sant Aventí de Cérvoles is a Romanesque church in the municipality of Senterada and is protected as a local cultural asset. The Dolmen de la Casa Encantada offers another connection to the past: it belongs to a group of megalithic monuments associated with various communities that once lived in the comarca. The monastery of Santa Maria de Senterada, also known as Santa Grata, has a precisely dated first known documentary mention: it dates from June 21, 823. Thus, the dolmen draws attention to its place within a group of monuments and their connection to earlier communities, while the monastery offers a specific historical date.

Industrial history and the fair

For a century, the former Fàbrica de Mantes in Senterada supplied blankets to Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà and part of Noguera. Its history thus extends beyond the village to several parts of the region. The annual Fira d’Artesanies de Senterada is a recurring feature of the local events calendar.
