When looking for hotels in Collbato, it is worth using the experiences you have planned as your starting point: the karst landscape in the cave, challenging hikes, or culture connected with organ building and olive oil. These themes give the destination different facets. As you plan your trip, you can decide whether to focus on geological formation, specific details of a circular route, or the history of the town and its products.

Karst landscape in the Cova del Salnitre

At the Cova del Salnitre, you can take a close look at a karst landscape. It was formed over thousands of years by rainwater acting on conglomerate and calcareous material. The focus is therefore not only on the visible karst relief, but also on the long-term effects of water on the rock. Tickets must be purchased in advance for visits to the Coves de Montserrat.

Hiking routes with different highlights

Ruta 3. Collbató - Collbató is a challenging circular route with a maximum elevation of 1,035 m, a distance of 12.510 km and a duration of 3 hours and 57 minutes. Time, distance and elevation provide concrete planning details; the challenging rating further characterizes the route. The route also preserves part of the historic paved access path to the Sanctuary of Montserrat.

The Camí de l'Oli leads from Collbató to El Bruc. Along the way, it passes through olive groves and alongside dry-stone walls in a rural landscape beneath the silhouette of Montserrat. Sixteen interpretive, interactive and analog panels provide information about the world of olive oil. By comparison, Ruta 3 provides specific details about distance, elevation and duration; the Camí de l'Oli focuses on the connection between two places, the landscape and olive oil.

Organ building and local history

Collbató has a history of organ building: the first organ workshop was founded there in 1925. The Orgue de Collbató has 1,545 pipes, two manual keyboards and a pedalboard. The instrument was designed and built by craftspeople at the Blancafort-Capella workshops in Collbató. In this particular instrument, local workshop history and technical features come together.

The visit “L'Orgue, el Rei dels Instruments” includes the Espai Temàtic dels Orgueners and the Blancafort organ workshop. Concerts featuring the Orgue de Collbató include performances with organ alone, as well as with organ and other instruments. If you would like to include a concert in your travel plans, check the specific performance dates in advance.

The “Collbató Medieval” audio guides explain the town's origins; evidence of these dates back more than 4,000 years. The local history presented in the guides therefore reaches much further back than the history of the organ workshop, which began in 1925.

Olive oil as a local tradition

The Molí de l'Oli Interpretation Centre explains the tradition of olive growing and oil production in Collbató from the Middle Ages to the present day. It also introduces the vera and palomar olive varieties typical of the area around Montserrat. Its focus differs from that of the Camí de l'Oli panels: the centre places growing and production in a historical context and names the varieties, while the panels provide information about the world of olive oil along the way.
