Sant Llorenç d'Hortons offers several starting points for planning your trip: churches and historic buildings, water features, the annual Terrazel, and routes through vineyards and woodland. If you are looking for a hotel, you can choose your focus based on your travel dates. A visit around 10 August has a different purpose from a trip focused on architectural history and walking routes.

Churches and historic buildings

The church of Sant Llorenç d'Hortons was first documented in 945. The present church building was constructed between 1845 and 1847. It has a single-nave layout, a semicircular apse, and side chapels between the buttresses. The bell tower is square at the bottom and has an octagonal upper section. These features give you specific architectural details to look for as you view the building.

Traces of an older church also remain in the Rectoria de Sant Llorenç d'Hortons: visible remains of the former Romanesque church can be seen inside. The building history of Casa Gran, near Celler St Joannes, dates back to 1453. The Romanesque hermitage of Sant Joan Bautista lies directly beside Casa Gran. It was built in the 11th century and extended in the 13th and 14th centuries. The church of Sant Joan Samora has been documented since 1080 and is well preserved.

Traces of stone quarrying are still visible at the Pedrera romana de la Rierussa. Historic structures thus also include places where the work of cutting stone itself can be seen. The different dates and forms offer several perspectives on the history of the area, without suggesting that all the buildings date from the same period.

Water features and landscape

The present-day appearance of La Bassa Gran dates from its renovation in 1911. The fountain and basin feature design elements influenced by Modernism. Historically, the site combined a fountain, an irrigation basin, and an area set up as a washhouse. In summer, La Bassa Gran was a popular meeting place. Here, you can trace both the design of the renovation and the former uses of the water.

The Parc de Cal Sant Just tells a different story of water. A fountain and a covered washhouse were built there in the early 19th century. In the past, surplus water was used to irrigate nearby gardens. The waterfall at Salt de La Pedrera is about 15 metres high. The geological surroundings contain Miocene marine sediments and marine fossils. Dense vegetation prevents access to the streambed.

Routes and wine country

The Camí de la Garnatxa reaches Sant Llorenç d'Hortons and joins the GR 5 at the entrance to the town. The GR-S route from Sant Llorenç d'Hortons passes through vineyards, crosses a river, and follows a wooded ridge with farmhouses. The points of reference described are different: for the Camí, they are arrival in the town and the connection to the GR 5; for the GR-S, they are the landscapes along the route. Check trail conditions locally.

At Celler St Joannes, you can walk to the vineyards and enjoy views of Montserrat. This adds a specific landscape experience to the route description. If you enjoy walking, you can take this view across the vineyards into account when planning your trip.

Terrazel, local products and visitor information

Terrazel takes place every year on 10 August as the main performance of the Festa Major of Sant Llorenç d'Hortons. It was created and is performed by local residents. The street festival brings together animal figures, giants, large masks, music and fire, and encourages reflection on environmental destruction. Individual events may change. If you are travelling specifically for Terrazel, check the dates and programme in advance.

Local products include wine, oil, cava, ceramics and paintings. Cellar tours and pairing experiences are also offered. Participating producers and experiences may change; check in advance which offers are available on your travel dates. The town hall serves as the tourist information office. If you would like to get information there, check the contact details before your trip.
