Perafita offers several ways to enjoy a stay: easy walks with GPS audio guides, a striking rocky landscape and historic buildings in the town centre. If you are looking for a hotel in Perafita, these themes can help shape your choice of destination. Are you interested in rural trails, the town centre or an event date? The following routes and places offer different highlights.

Walks and routes in Perafita

The municipality of Perafita provides seven GPS-based audio guides for easy walks and excursions in the surrounding area. They follow an extensive network of paths and rural tracks to farmhouses, springs and neighbouring places. The spoken directions provide precise guidance, give information about the landscape, vegetation and points of interest, and warn you if you leave the route. This way, the guides combine navigation with information about the things you encounter along the way.

The “Voltants de Perafita” route offers views of Montserrat, Pedraforca and the eastern Pyrenees. It also passes several notable places: the parish church, Castell de Perafita, Carrer Major and a number of springs. The route brings views and cultural heritage together.

The Perafita–Santa Margarida route is suitable for everyone and passes through a landscape shaped by agriculture and forestry. Along the way, it passes Masia de la Tria before reaching the Ermita de Santa Margarida de Vilaltella. The Perafita–El Santuari dels Munts route, in turn, crosses a landscape shaped by agriculture and livestock farming, with scattered farmhouses and small woods. By comparison, “Voltants de Perafita” focuses on views and buildings, while the other two routes are defined by their landscapes and the places named along them.

La Ramada Encantada and the townscape

La Ramada Encantada is a large, elevated rocky area on Perafita’s northern municipal boundary, immediately adjacent to the municipalities of Lluçà and Sant Agustí de Lluçanès. It lies below the BV-4341 road and along the Serrat de les Cabrasses ridge. The striking rock formations, rounded by erosion, are associated with the local legend from which the place takes its name. Here, a distinctive geological formation and local folklore come together in the place name.

In the town centre stands the Església de Sant Pere. Its nave has a single aisle, and its bell tower is octagonal. The church’s role as a parish church is first documented in 1121. Its layout and tower shape give the building a clearly defined form; its parish history dates back to the Middle Ages.

Carrer Major is Perafita’s longest street, apart from the BP-4653, which is called Passeig de Sant Agustí in the town centre. Carrer Major runs from the southern end of the town centre to Plaça Major. It is lined on both sides mainly with houses built of natural stone. The street’s course and stone masonry are defining features of the townscape.

History and local events

Castell de Perafita was built in the modern era. Numerous Neo-Gothic features give it the appearance of a Central European château or castle. The Mas Puig once stood on the site of the Castell and is extensively documented from the 13th century onwards.

The Sotsvegueria del Lluçanès was established in 1396, with Perafita as one of its two capitals. This administrative role encouraged the town’s growth as weavers and other craftspeople settled there. The Monòlit de Jaume Puig also recalls the town’s history: it is dedicated to Jaume Puig i Beuló of Perafita, who played an active part in the events at the beginning of the 18th century that led to the War of the Spanish Succession.

Perafita’s events calendar lists the Candelera festival and fair (Fira de la Candelera) for the first Sunday in February. The Caramelles de Pascua, traditional Catalan songs, take place in March or April. The Caminata Perafita–Els Munts is also scheduled for the first Saturday in September. If you want to plan your trip around one of these dates, check the programme for the relevant year.

In the town centre, L’Agrobotiga del Lluçanès sells and serves tastings of mainly bread and Coques de Perafita. Product availability may vary; if you are interested in a particular product, it is best to ask in advance.
