Caves and Prehistory

The “De Moià a les Coves del Toll” route is 6.5 kilometres long and rated easy. As route details can change, it is advisable to check the current listing before setting out. This lets you take the stated distance into account when planning, without confusing it with the question of guided access to the inside of the caves.

The Coves del Toll are a geological formation that has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Remains of hearths and some flint tools attributed to the Mousterian period provide evidence of Neanderthal presence in the Moianès region during the Middle Palaeolithic, 100,000 to 40,000 years ago. The fauna from a much later geological period is also of interest: the Cova del Toll is among the European caves with particularly rich Quaternary fauna.

Four different Neolithic huts have been recreated in the Parc Prehistòric de les Coves del Toll. These reconstructions add a vivid dimension to the story of early settlement: the focus is not only on finds from the past, but also on how Neolithic dwellings are represented.

Museums and History

The Casa Museu Rafael Casanova is a 16th-century house. Rafael Casanova was born there around 1660; today, the house contains an exhibition about the War of the Spanish Succession. Founded in 1935, the Museu Municipal de Moià is located on Plaça Major in the Casanova family home, Rafael Casanova’s birthplace.

The Museu Arqueològic i Paleontològic de Moià offers an archaeological and palaeontological perspective. In four thematic sections, it displays finds from the Toll caves and from dolmens in the Moianès. Together, the museums offer different ways of exploring history: from a birthplace and an exhibition about the War of the Spanish Succession to archaeological and palaeontological collections.

Landscape and Activities

Regional walking and cycling routes highlight Puig Rodó in Moià as a worthwhile destination. You can visit on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The Mirador de la Creu in Moià is noted for its spectacular views. Alongside the caves and museums, landscape and viewpoints are therefore separate interests to consider when planning your trip.

Club de Golf Montbrú-Moià offers a 9-hole, par-32 course that takes the characteristics of the terrain and landscape into account. The club also offers a practice area, a putting green, lessons, and the rental of clubs, trolleys and buggies. Check current operations and available services before your visit.

At Centre hípic El Grèbol, you can discover the landscapes of the Moianès on horseback. Possible activities include learning to ride, pony handling and show jumping lessons. Check availability directly with Centre hípic before planning your visit. This makes it easy to distinguish the activities by their focus: golf on a course with a specified number of holes and par, or time on horseback, where the availability of activities should be confirmed in advance.
