Three distinct themes stand out when planning a trip to Canyamel: Coves d’Artà on the coast, the wetland and routes with clearly defined paths. The offerings differ in the type of experience: a guided cave tour, nature-related topics and routes with various landmarks. This lets you choose what to explore in the area based on what matters for your stay.

Coastal cave tour

Coves d’Artà lie on the coast of Canyamel, in the cliffs of Cap Vermell, surrounded by steep hills above the sea. Guided tours last about 40 minutes. This approximate duration gives you a clear timeframe for the cave tour and helps you plan it as a separate activity. If you want to consider both a cave and a coastal landscape when choosing an excursion, you can combine both themes here. Check the current rules for guided visits before you travel.

Wetland and environmental education

The Canyamel wetland is a Site of Community Importance and forms part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 network. This makes it part of a European network of protected areas. The wetland has an interpretation centre with images and information about local vegetation and wildlife, as well as an environmental education trail. The wetland therefore offers both protected status and environmental education activities. If you are interested in plants and wildlife, these features give your visit a focused learning perspective. Check the current visiting rules for the centre.

Beach and path by the wetland

Canyamel Beach is 290 metres long and offers lifeguard service and water sports. Bear this in mind when choosing when to visit, and check which services are currently available if they are important to your plans.

Another path starts at els pins de ses Vegues in Canyamel, next to the beach. From there, the route follows the seafront promenade towards the wetland at Torrent de Canyamel. The landmarks mentioned help you understand this path: the starting point near the beach, the promenade and the direction towards the wetland. If you choose a route based on its course, you can take this sequence of coastal and wetland themes into account.

Route R.7 to Artà

Route R.7 starts at Canyamel Beach and leads to Artà. Along the way, it passes the 13th-century Torre de Canyamel. Artà gives the route a clear destination, while the tower marks a historic waypoint. By contrast, the path starting at els pins de ses Vegues focuses on the seafront promenade towards the wetland. The different landmarks help you compare the routes based on their stated destinations and landscape settings.

The R.7 runs along paths through pine forests and includes narrow sections with loose stones that challenge mountain bikers. If you plan to cycle the route, factor these surface conditions into your own assessment. As surface and access conditions can change, check them before setting off.
