La Cerollera combines hiking routes through the natural surroundings of the town with historic landmarks from different periods. During your stay, you can focus on a hike, architectural history, or the history of the Agrupación Guerrillera de Levante y Aragón (AGLA). The most specific information is available for the “Tumbas y Maquis” route; the town also offers other cultural topics that can be explored independently.

Hiking Routes and Equestrian Route

The local tourism portal presents eight hiking routes that combine nature around La Cerollera with the town’s history: Ruta Nevera Caubet, Ruta Font de Dalt, Ruta Las Fuentes, Ruta Tumbas y Maquis, Ruta Santet y Font del Forat, Ruta Las Carrascas, Ruta Cova del Molí, and Ruta Font dels Prats. The route list shows the variety of names and themes, though not every hike follows the same path or has the same information available.

The “Tumbas y Maquis” route is 14.3 kilometers long, with an estimated duration of 3 hours and 45 minutes. It runs at elevations between 670 and 835 meters and leads to the remains of several megalithic tombs near Les Valletes. The stated duration gives you a guide for planning the time needed for this particular hike.

Another way to get around is a 14-kilometer equestrian route that starts and ends in La Cerollera. It follows paths and forest tracks through the wooded surroundings of the municipality. The two routes are almost the same length, but differ in how you travel; an estimated duration is given for the “Tumbas y Maquis” hiking route.

AGLA History

At the end of 1946, Ángel Fuertes, known as “Antonio,” leader of the AGLA’s 17th sector, set up a headquarters in the municipality of La Cerollera and a training camp nearby. The organization’s history is also the focus of the exhibition space “La guerra en La Cerollera” on the ground floor of the Old Oven. It features a permanent multimedia presentation on the history of the AGLA in Aragón, as well as an audiovisual program with accounts from seven local residents.

The remains of the Campamento Escuela de La Cerollera that survive today reveal four huts; there may have been more. The camp comprised three areas: a kitchen; a living, storage, and training area; and surveillance and observation posts. Together with the exhibition, these historic sites offer insight into different aspects of the AGLA’s history in La Cerollera.

Churches and Historic Houses

The parish church of Nuestra Señora del Remedio is a Baroque church completed in 1762. Its rectangular floor plan includes three naves: a central nave with a barrel vault and lunettes, side aisles with groin vaults, and a dome over the crossing. This layout distinguishes the central nave from the side aisles through their different vault forms, while the dome adds another architectural feature.

The Ermita de San Cristóbal stands on a hill near La Cerollera. The Baroque chapel dates from the 17th century and was completed in 1692. Two distinctive details stand out in the historic houses: Casa Palacio Marqués de Santa Coloma, built in the 16th century, has an Aragonese arcaded gallery on its top floor and a striking wooden eaves. Casa Pallarés is a three-story house dating from the 17th or 18th century. Its surviving long wooden balcony is said to be the longest in Bajo Aragón.

Patron Saint Festivities

The patron saint festivities take place on the fourth Sunday in August, sometimes on the preceding weekend. Saturday is dedicated to San CristĂłbal, and Sunday to the Virgen del Remedio. If you would like to time your stay to coincide with the festivities, check the specific event dates; the celebration may move to the preceding weekend.
