Mountain Scenery and Nature

Cachoeira da Amizade, about two kilometers from the center, offers a different perspective on nature. It consists of two waterfalls, each around 20 meters high, that form a crystal-clear pool. The surrounding area is also rich in flora and fauna. About 80 percent of the original vegetation remains; this proportion may change over time. The third stage of the Rota Verde starts in Sapucaí-Mirim and passes through one of the largest protected environmental areas in the Serra da Mantiqueira.

At Pedra do Campestre, the focus is on elevation, panoramic views, and the route, which is rated difficult and takes an average of six hours. Cachoeira da Amizade, by contrast, combines two waterfalls and a pool with a location about two kilometers from the center. You can choose between these natural attractions based on your interest in hiking or waterfall scenery.

History, Pilgrimage Sites, and Town Culture

The early settlement had a matriz built in honor of its patron saint, Sant'Ana, and the Sapucaí-Mirim River; today’s town lies in the river valley. Igreja Matriz Sant´Ana was founded in 1871, and its chapel was built between 1918 and 1937. The two dates refer to different parts of the church complex: 1871 to the founding of the matriz, and 1918 to 1937 to the construction of its chapel.

The Marco do Peregrino honors pilgrims traveling along the Caminho da Fé and the Caminho da Divina Providência; both routes pass through Sapucaí-Mirim. Mirante do Cruzeiro is a place for prayer and celebrations. On Corpus Christi, it becomes a pilgrimage destination; the traditional walk draws worshippers and tourists. Dates and arrangements may vary. The Marco do Peregrino thus represents the connection to the pilgrimage routes, while the Corpus Christi tradition is a particular focus at Mirante do Cruzeiro.

Escadão de Mosaico adds urban art and culture to the picture. At Rudah Art Studio – Ateliê de Cerâmica, visitors can work with clay on a pottery wheel and make their own bowls, mugs, cups, plates, or jugs. The studio also offers the Japanese Raku firing technique. Glazed ceramic pieces are fired at an intense 1,000 °C and then undergo reduction, which creates iridescent colors. The pottery wheel is an activity for visitors; Raku adds a firing technique to the offering. If you plan to visit the studio, arrange a date before your trip and confirm that the Raku experience is available before visiting.
