Discover Passa-Vinte: Grotto, Waterfalls and Festival
Accommodation in Passa-Vinte
Passa-Vinte combines landmarks in the town center with natural attractions in the municipality and nearby areas. These include a grotto carved into the rock, several waterfalls, and a religious and cultural tradition celebrated annually. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these different experiences individually: some places define the town center, while others are in rural areas or on a municipal boundary.
Getting your bearings in the center and on the route to Pedreira
The Passa-Vinte train station building is in the town center. You can reach it by walking uphill along Rua Liberdade, next to Praça Major Francisco Cândido Alves. This makes it a useful landmark in the center before you head to natural attractions outside the urban area.
Gruta da Pedreira is a grotto carved into the rock, located on the hiking trail to the summit of Pedreira. Here, two distinct features come together: the striking form of the grotto carved into the rock and the path leading up to the summit. If you are interested in rocky landscapes and hiking trails, this combination is what makes the place special.
Waterfalls and scenery in the municipality
Cachoeira do Lajeado is in the rural area of Passa Vinte, on the road to the district of Carlos Euler. The trails there are suitable for walks and hikes, and you can swim in the pools. There is also space nearby for picnics and outdoor gatherings. If you plan to swim, check the water conditions on site.
At Cachoeira do Djalma, the waterfall’s shape takes center stage: it spans nearly 20 meters between the rocks. In front of the waterfall, clear water forms a large natural pool. Cachoeira da Princesa offers a different scenic impression, with a large rock face surrounded by lush nature. The waterfalls are thus described in different ways: at Lajeado, the trails and activities are noted; at Djalma, the span between the rocks and the pool; and at Princesa, the rock face and surrounding nature.
Cachoeira da Fumaça is in Rio Preto, on the border between the municipalities of Resende in Rio de Janeiro and Passa Vinte in Minas Gerais. It is protected because of its natural significance. When water levels are high, it creates a dense, bright mist and a steady, fleeting spray; the waterfall’s scenic beauty is described as surprising. The intensity of this natural spectacle varies with the river’s flow, so high water levels are an important condition for the described mist effect.
Represa da Usina is another scenic destination in the municipality. It is considered a contemplative landscape at the entrance to the district of Carlos Euler and can be reached via the road between the district and the town of Passa Vinte. As access conditions can change, check them locally if you plan to visit the reservoir.
Festa de Santo AntĂ´nio
Festa de Santo Antônio is a traditional religious and cultural celebration held annually in the municipality of Passa Vinte. It includes Masses, processions, quermesses, musical performances, and stalls selling typical foods. The festival offers a different way to experience the region than its natural attractions: the focus is on community celebration, religious tradition, and culture. If you would like to plan your trip around the Festa, check the dates for that year’s edition in advance.
