Explore Paraisópolis through three distinct points of interest: public art, a cultural center in the former railway station, and scenic spots along the Caminho da Fé. This range is useful when planning your trip and deciding which aspects of the town interest you most.

Art and Public Spaces

On Praça Coronel José Vieira stands a sculpture by Amilcar de Castro, who was born in Paraisópolis in 1920. It is more than two meters high and wide. The tree-lined square also has an illuminated fountain with synchronized water jets, visible both day and night. Here, the work of an individual artist meets the design of a public space.

Railway History and Culture

The Centro Educacional e Cultural Amilcar de Castro is housed in a former Art Deco railway station. The station was built in 1914 for the Rede Mineira de Viação; in 1987, it was converted into a cultural center. That same year, the center was named in honor of the neo-concrete artist Amilcar de Castro, who was born in Paraisópolis. The dates make it possible to trace the transition from railway station to cultural center.

Another way to explore local cultural history is the Museu Carlos Gonzaga, which opened in November 2025. It displays personal belongings, records, trophies, and documents from Carlos Gonzaga’s career. The collection thus brings together personal mementos and records of his career.

Railway Bridge and Local Connections

The Ponte de Ferro over the Rio Sapucaí-Mirim was built in the early 20th century. As part of the railway network, it connected Paraisópolis and Itajubá; the line ran through Brasópolis. The bridge is in Bairro Ponte de Ferro, on the highway between Paraisópolis and Conceição dos Ouros. Its former role in railway transport and its precise location in the neighborhood are both notable.

Caminho da Fé and Scenery

In rural Paraisópolis, the Capela de Santa Ágata e São Peregrino was inaugurated in February 2026 at a viewpoint along the Caminho da Fé. Also on the route is the Mirante do Imbiruçu in Bairro de Áreas, which offers panoramic views. Another scenic spot, Cachoeira dos Henriques, lies on the border between Paraisópolis and Gonçalves in southern Minas Gerais. The chapel and the Mirante are connected to the Caminho da Fé, while the waterfall is located by reference to the municipal boundary.

Events and Music

The Feira Raízes da Mantiqueira brings together local artisans, agricultural producers, entrepreneurs, and artists. It is held monthly and celebrates the identity, flavors, and talents of Paraisópolis; dates are announced in advance. If you are planning around a particular date, check the relevant announcement.

The Orquestra de Viola Violeiros do Paraíso organizes performances, gatherings, and cultural activities. Its repertoire draws on classics of música caipira and pays tribute to leading composers and performers in the genre. The Feira and the orchestra have different focuses: the Feira brings together various local professional and artistic groups, while the orchestra is dedicated to music and gatherings.
