Arrimal: Lagoons, Art and Nature Park Views

The three Lagoas do Arrimal, Lagoa Pequena, decorated with art and azulejos, a named walking trail and sporting events offer different starting points for a trip to Arrimal. If you are looking for a hotel in Arrimal, it helps to consider nature, culture and activities as separate themes.

Lagoas do Arrimal: Water Landscape and Fauna

The Lagoas do Arrimal comprise three lagoons in the Freguesia do Arrimal. They form in shallow surface depressions where rainwater collects. If you include this landscape feature in your trip planning, you can take both the terrain and the accumulation of water into account. The fauna includes moorhens, little grebes, common toads, green frogs and water snakes. Which of these animals you actually see during a visit may vary. Wildlife observation is therefore a possible focus, but not something to expect on every stay.

Art, Washhouse and Views

There is a public washhouse at Lagoa Pequena in Arrimal. The site is also adorned with contemporary art, sculptures by local artists and traditional azulejos. The azulejos bring in traditional tile art, while the sculptures are by local artists. Lagoa Pequena thus combines a practical public facility with artistic design, whereas the three Lagoas do Arrimal are characterised primarily by their formation and fauna. From the Moinhos do Arrimal, the view extends across the Parque Natural das Serra de Aire e Candeeiros. This is a different landscape feature from the lagoons’ water accumulation and complements the cultural themes with a view of a nature park.

Walking Trail and Access

The PR1 Percurso do Arco da Memória e Serra da Lua walking trail starts at the Parque de Campismo de Arrimal. Prior contact with the CCRD Arrimal is required to access the Parque de Campismo. If you plan to include the campsite in your itinerary, get in touch beforehand. This allows you to take the trail’s starting point and the campsite’s access requirement into account as two separate planning points: the PR1 starts there, and access to the campsite requires prior contact.

Cycling and Trail Events

The 23rd edition of BTT Arco da Memória was scheduled for 20 September 2026. The start and finish were planned next to the Centro Cultural Recreativo e Desportivo de Arrimal at Rua do Outeiro No. 15, Arrimal, 2480-043 Porto de Mós; the route formats planned were RAID and MINI-RAID. Since the date has already passed, it should be considered a scheduled event date in the past, not an upcoming event. The 10th Trail Carreiros do Pastor Arrimalano 2026 was set to include a TRAIL SPRINT, a MINI-TRAIL, a walk and a KIDS RUN. The events therefore differ in format: BTT features two RAID formats, while the trail event includes running and walking formats as well as a KIDS RUN.
