Czudec: Culture, Churches and Market Square
Accommodation in Czudec
If you are planning a stay in Czudec, you can explore its local history, churches and hiking trails. The town combines a historic townscape with a museum and a variety of routes.
Manor House, Park and Market Square
On Parkowa Street in Czudec, there is a manor house and park complex with buildings from different centuries. The ensemble includes a manor house from the first half of the 18th century, the Skarbiec granary from around the mid-16th century, an entrance gate from the first half of the 19th century, and a landscape park with a pond from the 18th century. The Zespół Szkół w Czudcu school is now located on the grounds.
The buildings’ different dates make the complex interesting for architectural comparison: the Skarbiec comes from a much earlier period than the manor house and park, while the entrance gate was added in the 19th century. Several features with their own distinct dates thus stand side by side on Parkowa Street, rather than a single building telling the entire story of the ensemble.
The market square also offers a glimpse of the historic townscape. Remnants of 19th-century small-town wooden buildings have been preserved there. Most of the houses face the street with their gables, and some have arcaded porches. In addition to these architectural features, the square hosts concerts, fairs, sales and charity bazaars, market fairs and sporting events. If a particular date is important for your trip, check the event date in advance.
Museum and Churches
The Museum of Tradition and History is located in the synagogue’s basement rooms. Its exhibitions explore the Czudec community, its history, and its material and spiritual culture. This means that, alongside the visible buildings and market square, the history of the community itself is also a subject in the town.
The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity is a Baroque church dating from the 18th century. Another religious building is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Czudec, a Baroque church with a richly decorated interior. It houses the venerated miraculous image of Our Lady of Mercy, also known as the Czudecka. The crypts in Czudec are often called “Mały Wawel” (“Little Wawel”).
Routes Through Czudec and the Surrounding Area
The red Dębowa Route, as described in 2013, passes the historic Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity and the market square in Czudec. Its endpoint is on Parkowa Street, next to the Uznański manor house, which now houses the Zespół Szkół w Czudcu school. The route described thus connects several of the places mentioned within Czudec; check the current route and trail markings before setting out.
The black Czudec–Brzeżanka hiking trail is a different proposition. It starts in Czudec, is 24 kilometres long and is described as taking approximately eight hours to walk. The two routes therefore differ mainly in character: the red Dębowa Route is defined by its course past the church and market square and its endpoint on Parkowa Street, while the length and walking time are important planning factors for the black hiking trail.
