Zawady: Railway Architecture and a Kayak Route on the Liswarta and Warta
Accommodation in Zawady
Two distinct themes stand out for a stay in Zawady: railway buildings from around 1930 and a kayak route leading from Zawady to WÄ…sosz GĂłrny. The structures can be distinguished by their materials, dates and positions relative to one another. On the water, the rivers and the wooded stretch at the start of the tour take centre stage. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus more on architectural history or on a journey along the Liswarta and Warta.
Railway station buildings from around 1930
The “Miedźno” railway station building in Zawady dates from 1930 and is built of masonry. The station’s outbuilding is also built of masonry, dates from around 1930 and is located on the former main railway line, about 30 metres south of the station building. The water tower at the station is also built of masonry and dates from 1930; it stands about 300 metres north of the station building. The station building and water tower therefore date from the same year, while the outbuilding is from approximately the same period. The station building serves as the reference point: the outbuilding is to the south and much closer, while the water tower is to the north and farther away.
A railway bridge over the Liswarta
A stone railway bridge crosses the Liswarta in Zawady and also dates from 1930. It adds a river crossing to the railway theme: unlike the station buildings, the focus here is a bridge over the river. The Liswarta thus appears in two different contexts—as the river beneath the railway bridge and as one of the rivers on the kayak route. The local railway architecture therefore includes both the buildings and the stone crossing.
Kayak route from Zawady to WÄ…sosz GĂłrny
A kayak trip along the Liswarta and Warta leads from Zawady to Wąsosz Górny. At the start of the route from Zawady, the Liswarta meanders through riverside woodland. Meanders are bends in a river; together with the woodland along the banks, they describe the landscape character of the first stretch. The starting section and the route as a whole have different points of reference: the river scenery at the beginning belongs to the Liswarta, while the kayak trip overall follows the Liswarta and Warta to Wąsosz Górny. The operator Kajaki Zawady organises kayak trips on the Liswarta in the municipality of the same name. As specific arrangements may change, check the operator’s current booking information before travelling.
For travel planning, the difference is between a place-based theme and a route: for the railway buildings, their positions around the station building help distinguish the individual structures; for the kayak trip, the rivers and the destination of WÄ…sosz GĂłrny set the scene. If you are interested in architectural history, the individual buildings take centre stage. If you would like to paddle, the tour leads from Zawady to WÄ…sosz GĂłrny.
