Miedźno is located in the Miedźno municipality, in Kłobuck County and the Silesian Voivodeship. For a trip focused on church architecture, local history and remembrance, the area offers several distinct points of interest. Alongside the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, you can explore the cemetery chapel, a historic settlement pattern and memorial sites. Nearby Mokra adds a museum, a memorial chamber and another historic church building. When looking for a hotel for your trip, you can decide based on which of these topics interest you most.

Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria

The Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria is considered a landmark in Miedźno. It is located at 2 Ułańska Street, 42-120 Miedźno. The present-day church was built between 1872 and 1877 on the site of a wooden church that had burned down. The parish dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Miedźno was founded as early as 1425. The parish’s long history and the construction period of the present church building thus represent different historical periods.

Inside is a 19th-century Neo-Gothic high altar featuring a Baroque painting of Saint Catherine of Alexandria from the first half of the 18th century. The polychrome decorations from the late 19th century were discovered during renovation work and restored by Professor Jerzy Nowosielski. Other historic furnishings include a monstrance dating from 1620 and a tower clock. The altar, painting and polychrome decorations thus represent different periods of creation and artistic layers.

Chapels and Memorial Sites in Miedźno

The cemetery chapel was built around 1840 by the Miączyński family. The voivode Miączyński and his family are buried in its crypt. There was also a Chapel of Saint John in Miedźno around 1900. The original building was destroyed in 1939 and replaced by a new one in 1945.

There is a symbolic grave in the historic cemetery. A granite plaque lists the names of 135 residents from Miedźno, Mokra, Kołaczkowice, Wapienniki and Izbiska who were murdered. The cemetery also contains a mass grave of insurgents. These different forms of remembrance—a grave, a list of names and a mass grave—give the cemetery its own historical significance beyond its function as a burial place.

Attractions in Nearby Mokra

The Museum of Przeworsk Culture and the Memorial Chamber of the Battle of Mokra offer museum sessions for school students and organised groups under the title “Żywe oblicza historii”. The wooden Church of Saints Simon and Jude is also in Mokra. It was built in 1708 and has a shingle roof and a small Baroque roof turret. There is also a cremation burial ground near Mokra, in a forest beside a road; it is accessible year-round.

These destinations differ in character: the museum sessions are intended for school students and organised groups, while the church and cremation burial ground are described as historic sites. If you would like to include Miedźno and Mokra in your trip, this distinction offers a practical guide to which stops suit your interests.

Settlement Pattern, Mill and Cycling Route

Miedźno has preserved a historic linear rural settlement pattern known as a “rzędówka”. It extends from the cemetery to the intersection with the road to Borowa. This allows visitors to explore not only individual buildings but also the historic layout of the settlement. A mill built in 1952–1953 is considered a preserved example of combined timber and solid construction.

In 2023, the municipality presented the Folga na Zakolu recreational cycling route, which connects six municipalities, including Miedźno. Check current route conditions before setting out. Together with the churches and memorial sites, this offers a range of themes for your trip: architectural history, memorial sites, settlement patterns and a recreational route.
