Goleszów has several distinct highlights to help you plan your trip: hiking trails on Jasieniowa and Chełm, nature and landscape features, and regional culture and history. If you are considering a hotel stay, this overview can help you plan your visit around your interests – perhaps with a hike, a look at the local landscape, or a visit focused on the area’s culture and history.

Hiking trails with different profiles

The “Szlak Jasieniowa” hiking trail runs through the southern part of Goleszów, along the slopes of Jasieniowa and over Mount Jasieniowa. Several points along the way offer panoramic views of the Silesian Beskids, the Cieszyn Foothills, the Ostrava and Oświęcim basins, and Goleszów. There are specific guidelines for planning your time: the trail is 7.0 kilometres long, has about 250 metres of ascent, and takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to walk.

“Pod Chełmem” focuses on something different. The hiking trail runs through the northern part of Goleszów and along the southern slopes of Mount Chełm. It also offers the opportunity to visit several historic buildings in Goleszów. The two trails therefore differ in what their descriptions highlight: for “Szlak Jasieniowa”, distance, ascent and walking time are given; for “Pod Chełmem”, the route along Chełm and the historic buildings take centre stage.

In the wider area around Goleszów is the easy “Graniczny” hiking trail. It connects the border villages of Dzięgielów and Leszna Górna, passes through Leszna and goes around Mount Tuł. Much of the route follows paved roads. When choosing this route, you can take into account both its easy rating and the described road surface; it also passes through places in the wider area, not just Goleszów.

Landscape and the TON reservoir

Goleszów lies between the elevations of Chełm and Jasieniowa, also known as Goleszowska Górka. Both consist of alternating layers of limestone and Cieszyn shale. Remains of the quarries are visible on the northern slopes of Jasieniowa. Together with the panoramic views along “Szlak Jasieniowa”, these features provide different ways to explore the landscape and its geological formations.

The TON reservoir also tells the story of the area’s former use: it formed in a former marl quarry from water that seeped into the quarry. More than 20 fish species, along with representatives of several native amphibian and reptile species, live there. Its origins and wildlife make TON a distinct nature feature alongside the trails and visible quarry remains.

Culture and history

The three-dimensional model “Makieta Cementowni Goleszów” depicts the cement plant site from the 1950s and 1960s, including part of the quarries. It offers a spatial view of the former plant grounds and their relationship to the quarries.

Established in 2006 at the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury, the Izba Oświęcimska is a modernised exhibition and educational centre. Documents and exhibits cover the history of an external camp, the lives and deaths of its prisoners, and residents of Goleszów municipality who helped the prisoners. The subject therefore encompasses the history of the camp, the prisoners’ experiences and the help they received from the local community.

Regional culture is also expressed through music and dance: the Zespół Pieśni i Tańca “Goleszów” performs songs and dances from the Cieszyn region and appears at various events and concerts. If you are interested in attending a performance, check the current event schedule.

The Gminny Ośrodek Kultury in Goleszów is a cultural venue for residents of the municipality and people staying in the area. Its offerings include classes, activities and events; the specific programme varies.
