A professional recording studio at the Museum of Polish Song, Triassic amphibian and reptile fossils, and a castle with a Gothic and Renaissance history: the Opole Voivodeship offers a range of themes for planning a trip in which culture and geology play a special role.

Music History and Science in Krasiejów

The Museum of Polish Song in Opole traces the history of Polish song from the 1920s to the present day. The museum includes recording booths for songs and a professional recording studio. It is also a cultural centre: artist talks, concerts, museum classes and educational activities for children complement the museum’s themes. Individual events may change.

In Krasiejów, the Science and Entertainment Park consists of JuraPark Krasiejów and the Park of Science and Human Evolution. The Palaeontological Pavilion at JuraPark Krasiejów protects Europe’s largest fossil-bearing layer of Triassic amphibians and reptiles. This makes the history of Polish song in Opole and a notable fossil-bearing layer in Krasiejów two clearly distinct travel interests.

Geology, Trails and the Sanctuary on Góra Św. Anny

Góra Św. Anny National Geopark is one of three geoparks in Poland. A ten-kilometre geological walking and cycling trail also runs on Góra Św. Anny. There are eleven geosites with information boards along the route. If you plan to walk or cycle the trail, check its conditions before your trip.

Another cultural landmark on Góra Św. Anny is the sanctuary, which has been visited by three popes. If you would like to include religious history in your trip as well as geology, this offers a different focus from the geological trail.

Several cycling routes run through Stobrawa Landscape Park. These include a marked red route, which is also suitable for cycling. Check the signage and trail conditions before setting out. The information about geosites and information boards on Góra Św. Anny applies specifically to its geological trail; it does not describe the cycling routes in Stobrawa Landscape Park.

Castles, City Walls and Historic Routes

The Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg was built in the 13th century as a Gothic residence and defensive structure, and was given a Renaissance design in the 16th century. The Museum of the Silesian Piasts is housed in the castle. This makes it possible to explore the building’s history and the museum in one place.

The permanent offering at Moszna Castle includes guided tours, an app, access to the tower, themed programmes and three versions of outdoor games. Since 1984, the Blooming Azaleas Music Festival has been held there. The offering ranges from guided tours and programmes to a long-running music festival; individual programmes may change.

Paczków is known for its well-preserved medieval defensive walls, which encircle the town in a 1.2-kilometre oval. In places, they are up to seven metres high; the fortifications include 19 towers and three gate towers. The Gasworks Museum in Paczków houses a collection of gas meters described as the largest in Europe.

In Nysa, St. Hedwig’s Bastion is part of the town’s 14th-century fortifications. A tourist route runs through the historic passages and forms part of the route along the former fortifications of Nysa Fortress. At the bastion, a tourist information point provides pilgrims on the Nysa Way of St. James with information about accommodation and dining along the route.

Culinary Routes and Hotel Planning

The Opolski Bifyj culinary route was established in 2015 as a food-focused journey through the Opole Voivodeship. Visitors get to know the region through its cuisine. The businesses featured include historic restaurants with regional significance, family-run establishments spanning generations and newer restaurants. The Opolskie Wine Trail promotes wine tourism in the Opole Voivodeship. The two routes therefore offer different focuses: one on cuisine and restaurants, the other on wine tourism.

Consider what you would like your trip to focus on, and compare the location of a specific hotel with your own plans. That way, you can choose where to search based on the visits you actually intend to make.
