The type of sightseeing you are looking for can be a deciding factor when choosing a destination. Glatz (Kłodzko) offers historic buildings, collections and underground tours, as well as a miniature park and a puzzle trail for young visitors. The attractions differ in character: fortress history, museum galleries, sacred art, a historic bridge and a walk with puzzles appeal to different interests.

Fortress history and underground routes

The upper visitor route at Twierdza Kłodzko presents the history of the complex from the 10th to the 20th century. The underground defence system includes around seven kilometres of tunnels beneath the entire Stok bojowy. Events from the Napoleonic campaign are also reenacted on this Stok bojowy.

A separate underground tourist route is the “1000 Years of Poland Underground Tourist Route”. It was created in the 1960s in the underground labyrinth of Kłodzko and runs for about 600 metres. Its starting point is on ul. Czeska, at the foot of the fortress; it leads to ul. Zawiszy Czarnego. On an underground walk, music from the town, tavern visitors and fairground sounds evoke the atmosphere of Kłodzko in the past.

Museum and historic collection

The Muzeum Ziemi Kłodzkiej is housed in a Baroque building that was once a Jesuit college. Among its most significant collections are pewter, numismatics and Silesian clocks from the period of industrialisation in Lower Silesia. There is also special glassware, including works by artists active in the Ziemia Kłodzka region after 1945. The objects on display may vary.

A visit to the museum also includes a look inside medieval underground rooms. Located more than six metres below ground, they present the everyday life of Kłodzko’s former residents. The rooms themselves are therefore a focus alongside the collections, offering a different dimension of the city’s history from the exhibits in the Baroque building.

Church, bridge and Old Town

The parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the oldest surviving church in Kłodzko. Its architecture and interior are shaped mainly by the Late Gothic period and, in particular, the Baroque. The Gothic bridge is dated to the period between 1281 and 1390 and replaced an earlier wooden bridge. Six votive figures adorn the structure.

The Baroque Marian Column is another of the city’s religious memorials. It is a votive offering for Glatz’s deliverance from plague and fire, commemorating two tragic events that struck the city. The Rynek is an integral part of the historic Old Town. A 17th-century palace belonging to the Wallis family also survives on ul. Czeska. The family came from Ireland and Wales.

Miniatures and puzzles for young visitors

Minieuroland Miniature Park is a leisure and entertainment destination for the whole family. It features miniature attractions and well-known buildings from Poland, Europe and around the world. The models therefore extend beyond the region and offer a different thematic experience from the fortress, museum and historic buildings.

Another option for young visitors is the “Szlakiem kłodzkich zabytków: dla dzieci” route. It invites them to take a walk through Kłodzko, with puzzles, secrets and surprises along the way.
