Sobota: Manor House, Church and Cycle Routes
Accommodation in Sobota
In Sobota, you can combine a stay with architectural and church history or focus on cycling routes. The manor house, church and sanctuary represent different historical periods; the cycle route information provides guidance for a tour. This allows you to tailor your trip to your interest in architecture, religious art or route planning.
Manor House, Church and Sanctuary
The manor house in Sobota was built in 1809 for its owner at the time, Ignacy Łaszkowski. A major renovation followed in 1912. The house is surrounded by a small, well-maintained park, laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and covering 1.5 ha. The construction and renovation mark distinct stages; the park was created in the early 19th century. This makes it possible to consider the history of the building and the design of its grounds together.
The church in Sobota is a late Gothic building, erected in 1510 through a foundation by Jan Sobocki. Inside are Renaissance tombs of the Sobocki family, made of red marble in the 16th century. There is also an image of the Madonna and Child from the first half of the 17th century, which is regarded as miraculous. Pilgrims visit the Marian Sanctuary to ask Matka Boża Sobocka for the graces and help they need. The building’s history, the tombs and the religious art offer different points of interest for a cultural-history trip.
The bell tower stands next to the church but is a separate building. It is Baroque and dates from the second half of the 18th century. The church and tower therefore belong to different building periods: the church was erected in 1510, while the tower was built more than two centuries later. Together with the manor house, they make it possible to distinguish several architectural periods in Sobota.
Cycle Routes and Route Guidance
The Marian Sanctuary in Sobota can be reached by bicycle via the Szlak Stu Jezior. The section from Kiekrz via Pawłowice reaches Sobota after about 6.8 km. This approximate distance provides a specific guide for the route. Check the route conditions before setting off.
The northern section of the Transwielkopolska Trasa Rowerowa provides another point of reference. At kilometre 15.7, the route crosses the road connecting Rokietnica and Sobota. At kilometre 16.3, it follows a sandy path through a forest, with Gajówka Sobota left behind on the left. At kilometre 17.3, the route crosses the Samica Kierska on a bridge. The information identifies specific waypoints and terrain along this northern section of the route.
Sobota’s buildings lie on the gently sloping eastern hillside of the Samica Kierska valley. The same river also appears at a point on the northern Transwielkopolska Trasa Rowerowa: at kilometre 17.3, the route crosses it on a bridge. The landscape description thus identifies the valley, while the route information pinpoints a specific crossing.
For your planning, the distance of about 6.8 km answers a different question from the kilometre markers on the northern section: one describes access to the sanctuary, while the others identify features along the route. Check the route conditions before cycling; on the Transwielkopolska Trasa Rowerowa, pay particular attention to the surface and signage.
