Luboń between the Warta, nature and industrial history
Accommodation in Luboń
Luboń offers several themes to consider when planning a trip: trails combine nature, recreation and industry, while the Warta and green spaces offer opportunities for outdoor activities. Other highlights include the Muzeum Martyrologiczne w Żabikowie and surviving traces of industrial history. Consider which of these themes you would like to shape your time in the city.
Trails, the Warta and green spaces
The “Śladami historii Lubonia” trail passes through four places that illustrate Luboń’s nature, recreation, industry and local landscape. Each of the four places has a themed information board with local information, a map of the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy between Poznań, Luboń and the Wielkopolski Park Narodowy, and guidance for further sightseeing.
The Warta, which flows through Luboń, offers good conditions for walking and kayaking. Flatwater kayaking in stable touring kayaks is also suitable for families. The Warta and the adjacent natural areas in Luboń are also part of the Nadwarciański Szlak Rowerowy, which follows the river through Kocie Doły to the Wielkopolski Park Narodowy.
Lasek Majoński is a green space in Luboń used for walking, outdoor activities and nature observation. Lasek Majoński has an educational and recreational trail, and is also home to the first 18-hole disc golf course in the Poznań area. Marked posts belonging to the “Zielony Punkt Kontrolny” concept are used for orienteering practice and map games. The Warta runs close to Lasek Majoński as an important ecological corridor, providing shelter for numerous fish, bird and mammal species.
At Plaża Miejska, visitors can use sun loungers, hammocks, pallets and blankets during the summer season. The city stadium complex is near Plaża Miejska and includes a sports field and a synthetic running track; there is also a training field, a beach soccer pitch and a street workout area nearby. As seasonal offerings and sports facilities may change, check that the amenities you need are available before your visit.
Memorial site and industrial history
Founded in 1979, the Muzeum Martyrologiczne w Żabikowie looks after preserved sites and objects from the Nazi camps, which operated from 1941 to 1945. The former camp grounds in Żabikowo are open to visitors. The museum presents two permanent exhibitions: “Więzienie Policyjne Policji Bezpieczeństwa oraz Wychowawczy Obóz Pracy w Posen-Lenzingen” and “Obozy pracy Przymusowej dla Żydów w Kraju Warty 1941–1943”.
Park Siewcy is part of the factory settlement built around 1908 for the managerial and technical staff of the chemical factory in Luboń. The Siewca monument in the park is one of the few works by Marcin Rożek to have survived to the present day. A few listed buildings and houses from the former factory settlement remain on the site of the former Koehlmann factory.
