When planning a trip to Tlachichuca, it is worth looking at two levels: the town, with its churches and historic buildings, and the municipality, with Pico de Orizaba National Park and its landscapes. This makes it possible to distinguish between local history and information about nature and routes for your stay.

Churches and festival in town

The Parroquia de la Inmaculada ConcepciĂłn was completed in 1651 and is listed in Tlachichuca as a historic, artistic and colonial building. A festival in honor of the Virgin is held at the church every year on December 8. If this festival is important to your trip, check the specific event details before booking.

The Templo de San Antonio and Rancho La Flor are also listed in Centro as historic, artistic and colonial buildings. Rancho La Flor is listed there as being located in Centro. These local references offer different points of connection to the past; the buildings should not be treated as one and the same.

Historic listings in the municipality

At the municipal level, the Ex Hacienda de Quetzalapa, Hacienda San José Capilla and Ex Hacienda de Santa Inés are also listed as historic, artistic and colonial buildings. For Quetzalapa, the road to Guadalupe Victoria is given as its location. For San José Capilla, the road to Guadalupe Victoria and San José are listed as location references. These haciendas broaden the historical perspective beyond the buildings in Centro to include the municipality of Tlachichuca.

Another landmark is in La Ermita: a framed depiction of the Virgin of Guadalupe is located there, about one kilometer from the municipal seat. The route from the municipal seat of Tlachichuca to La Ermita is half paved and half unpaved.

There is accommodation for mountaineers on Citlaltépetl, about seven kilometers from the municipal seat. Access is via unpaved roads and tracks. Road conditions may change; check access routes before setting out.

Activities and getting there

Hiking is possible in the national park year-round; mountaineering is possible from January to May. Weather and park restrictions may change, so check the latest guidance before setting out. The northern route to Pico de Orizaba National Park begins 20 kilometers from Tlachichuca; you should also check access and road conditions again before departure.

For getting around the municipality, the road from Ciudad Serdán follows a turnoff toward Tlachichuca along the Serdán–Guadalupe Victoria route. At the municipal seat, the access road to the town of San Miguel Zoapan branches off. CONANP lists Tlachichuca as one of the towns where tourist services for the national park can be arranged. Check their availability before your trip.
