If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Veere, you can start by basing your choice on your interests in local history or activities on the water. Historic buildings and museums define the character of the old town; seasonal boat trips, water sports and a cycling route take centre stage at the Veerse Meer. These different highlights can help you organise your own excursion plans.

Historic old town and architectural history

Veere’s historic old town includes numerous houses, streets and buildings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. The Stadhuis is a rectangular late Gothic building, with small towers projecting from its front. The Campveerse Toren is one of the oldest surviving inns in the Netherlands. The town centre therefore brings together several historical points of interest: the architecture of the town hall and the long tradition of inns.

The Grote Kerk Veere was completed in 1521. Various storytelling installations present the building’s history. The tower is 52 metres high. Access is seasonal, so check the current high-season dates before planning a visit to the tower.

Museum Veere and other stories of the town

Museum Veere has two visitor locations: the Schotse Huizen and the Stadhuis. Admission tickets allow visitors to visit both buildings. The Schotse Huizen display a preserved group of figures from the 16th century. Here, a historical exhibit meets a museum location in the late Gothic town hall. As schedules may change, check the latest visitor information before your visit.

The Parelroute “Macht” offers another way to explore Veere. Along the way, visitors answer questions and collect letters that form a word at the end. At De Stenen Beer, by contrast, the structure itself is the focus: the bastion dates from the Napoleonic era, and visitors can still walk through it today. The two experiences offer different highlights: one involves a series of tasks, while the other takes you through a historic passage.

Boat trips, water sports and cycling route

A Hoogaars is a traditional fishing boat from Zeeland. On a trip across the Veerse Meer aboard an authentic Hoogaars, you can see Veere from the water, while the skipper explains the town, its distinctive buildings and its history. Trips are seasonal. Check the dates before including one in your travel plans. This offers a clear choice between a view of the town and a focus on its architecture: on the water, views of Veere and the skipper’s commentary come together.

The “Around the Veerse Meer” cycling route offers a different perspective on the area around the water: the cycle path runs almost entirely parallel to the shore. This differs from the Hoogaars trip, which offers views of Veere from the water and commentary on the town’s history. Various water sports can also be enjoyed on the Veerse Meer; you can choose specific activities to suit your interests.

During the summer season, a tourist ferry runs between Veere and Kamperland. Check whether it is currently operating before you travel. It is therefore a seasonal connection between the two places, while the cycling route and Hoogaars trip each offer different experiences at the Veerse Meer.
