Domburg is the oldest seaside resort in Zeeland. If you’re looking for a hotel here, you can start by choosing your destination based on your interests: art and local history, nature and the sea, or activities such as cycling, golf and water sports. To help with planning, consider whether you’d prefer to include architecture and art, routes through the landscape or a specific activity.

A seaside resort with a layered history

Over the centuries, Domburg developed from a place of religion and trade into an artists’ village and eventually a seaside resort. The current Badpaviljoen building was built in 1888–1889 on the site of the first bathing pavilion, which dated from 1837. The dates refer to two different buildings: the first pavilion was the predecessor; the present building was constructed later on its site.

Molen Weltevreden also brings together architectural and art history. The stone Dutch windmill dates from 1817 and inspired numerous painters who worked in Domburg, including Toorop and Mondrian. For golfers, De Domburgsche has a special distinction: it is the only true links course in the Netherlands.

Art and architecture in Domburg

The Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum Domburg focuses on classical modern art and artists’ colonies in Europe. It hosts regularly changing exhibitions, and sculptures can be found in the garden. The museum offers its own perspective on Domburg’s art history, alongside the historic buildings and the motifs associated with artists.

Piet Mondrian drew and painted the Johanneskerk several times. The colourful Mondriaanbank also references his iconic style. The tourist information point is located in the Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum, Ooststraat 10a, in Domburg.

Sea, dunes and activities

The natural landscape in and around Domburg ranges from high dune peaks to the open sea. Routes in and around the town connect the sea, dunes and nature areas. The Mantelinge walking route starts at Strandclub Oaxaca, right by the dunes of Domburg; this gives route planning a specific starting point.
