When looking for a hotel for a stay in Sint Michielsgestel, you can plan your trip around specific interests: archaeological sites and the history of Landgoed Haanwijk, trails across the estate and along the Dommel, and wine tastings at Wijngoed Wolf, which is located near the village of Sint Michielsgestel.

Cultural history at Landgoed Haanwijk

At the Museum Romeins Halder, you can book a cultural history tour of the archaeological sites. The museum is located on Landgoed Haanwijk, where visitors can also choose between the “Roerige Romeinen” and “Knarsende Knagers” routes. This offers different formats: a bookable tour of the sites and two routes to choose from at the museum.

The estate’s history has a specific connection to the 17th century: it came into being when Jacob Sweerts de Landas (1587–1673) bought Hof Haanwijk in 1651. Landgoed Haanwijk includes centuries-old trees, a historic dike, a manor house, a bakehouse, a ferry house and farmhouses. Nature and historic buildings together shape the estate’s character.

Walking trails and landscapes along the Dommel

The 6.4-kilometre walking route across Landgoed Haanwijk passes centuries-old trees and historic buildings, as well as the picturesque Dommeldal. Another walking route is 3.6 kilometres long. It runs along the Dommel between Boxtel and Sint Michielsgestel and passes the Zegenwerp golf course. In terms of length, the Haanwijk route is the longer one; the shorter route follows the river between the two towns.

The Dommelpad opened in June 2025. It provides cyclists and pedestrians with a safer shared path and invites them to enjoy the Dommel and the surrounding nature. Alongside the walking routes, this is another path shared by cyclists and pedestrians.

Landgoed Zegenwerp offers a distinct landscape setting. The 70-hectare estate lies south of the built-up centre of Sint Michielsgestel on the west bank of the Dommel and is owned by the Het Brabants Landschap foundation.

Winegrowing and planning your visit

Wijngoed Wolf offers wine tastings and tours of the vineyard and wine cellar. The vineyard is situated on historic soils in the Meierij van ’s-Hertogenbosch, on a centuries-old raised field. Its soil layer consists of humus, clay and various types of sand. Anyone interested in winegrowing will find both tasting and tour options here, as well as a specifically described landscape and soil.

The exhibition at Gijzelaarskamp Beekvliet is a permanent exhibition, and a reservation system is available for visits. If you would like to visit on a Sunday, check the reservation system before travelling to see whether a suitable time is available.
