Discover Berlicum
Accommodation in Berlicum
Berlicum offers several ways to enjoy a stay: memorial sites and historic buildings, walks through the countryside, and a weekly market held at regular times. The theatre program and fair may also be important when planning your visit. If you’re looking for a hotel in Berlicum, it’s best to decide what you’re most interested in first: would you like to learn about local history, spend time outdoors, or attend a specific event in town?
History and local culture
The Berlicum war memorial is a stone commemorative column in Processiepark on Sassenheimseweg. It commemorates 44 residents of Berlicum and Middelrode who lost their lives as a result of acts of war between 1940 and 1946. The memorial site thus connects Berlicum with the remembrance of people from both places.
Several historic features come together at Seldensate: the site is surrounded by a moat and includes the ruins of a late-medieval castle and a gatehouse. The history of Landgoed De Wamberg also dates back to the late Middle Ages. The estate includes numerous listed buildings and landscape features; woods, avenues, ponds and expansive sightlines shape the landscape. At Seldensate, the castle ruins and gatehouse offer a different perspective on the past than the combination of buildings and designed landscape at De Wamberg.
Hoornwerk De Wamberg is also associated with a specific historical date: a mill stood here in 1629. A little south of the earthwork, the Aa was dammed in the same year; it still flows there today. The history of the structure and the river’s still-visible location are two different aspects to consider when learning about De Wamberg.
The Heemkundekring De Plaets is dedicated to the local history and heritage of Berlicum, Middelrode and Kaathoven. It organizes talks and screens slides and films. It also publishes cycling and walking routes and offers guided tours of village monuments with explanations. The local history program therefore includes both events and opportunities to explore routes and monuments.
Walks and countryside
For a walk, the Ommetje Seldensate is one option: the route follows sandy paths, and flowering plants can be seen along the way, depending on the season. Hikers can also experience the diverse flora and fauna of Landgoed Seldensate.
The Berlicum mountain bike route offers a different way to explore the surrounding area. It is classified as a blue, intermediate route and runs through the Het Groene Woud National Landscape Park. The route passes meadows, streams, rivers and woods.
The 600-meter-long Berenpad walking path was created specifically for people with dementia. Pavement tiles featuring bears refer to “de Beer van Balkum,” the symbol of Berlicum. If accessibility is important for your visit, check the condition of the path locally. When choosing a route, you can take account of the different details: the Ommetje is characterized by sandy paths and seasonal blooms, the mountain bike route has a designated difficulty level, and the Berenpad is described in terms of its length and intended visitors.
Market, fair and performances
The weekly market in Berlicum takes place on Wednesdays from 08:00 to 12:00. The fair takes place around the third Sunday in September and runs from Saturday to Tuesday. If your stay is planned around a specific date, take these times into account.
Centrally located Beneluxtheater is a versatile event venue with a varied performance program. Upcoming performances depend on the schedule, so check the current listings before you travel. This makes it possible to plan a theatre visit without assuming a specific event date.
Kamelenmelkerij Smits offers excursions, group safaris and children’s birthday parties for individuals and groups. This adds options in a range of formats and for different occasions. Together with the historic sites, walks and regular market times, these give you several different ways to shape your stay in Berlicum.
