Places with a history

From 1942 to 1944, more than 1,000 men were interned as German hostages at the Beekvliet minor seminary. The Romeins Halder Museum focuses on a different period: most of its collection comes from excavations in Halder and includes finds from the first centuries of our era. Kasteel Nieuw Herlaer has been protected as a Rijksmonument, or Dutch national monument, since 1973. It is privately occupied and cannot be visited, so do not plan to visit its interior, and check its visitor status again before your trip. Landgoed Haanwijk dates from 1649 and has several walking trails. Before setting out for a walk, check whether any trails are temporarily closed.

Walks and activities

Bomentuin D'n Hooidonk is open to the public at all times. Visitors can walk among the trees and relax. As access information can change, it is a good idea to check before your visit.
