Highlights of a stay in Sevenum include Attractiepark Toverland, trails through the village and countryside, and historic sites. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay in Sevenum, start by considering whether Toverland, hiking or local history will shape your visit.

Getting to the amusement park

Attractiepark Toverland is located in Sevenum. Bus routes 79 and 679 run from Horst-Sevenum station to the park. Although the station is called Horst-Sevenum, it is located in nearby Hegelsom. The station in nearby Hegelsom is connected to regional train services operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen, as well as train and bus services operated by Arriva Personenvervoer Nederland. If you’re planning to take the bus to the park, check the timetables for routes 79 and 679 in advance.

There are free, unattended bicycle parking spaces at the amusement park, accessible from the public road. This makes the type of parking a practical consideration when choosing how to travel: the spaces are unattended. You can get to the park by bus or bicycle.

Hiking and landscape

Sevenum lies on the boundary between higher sandy soils and the lower stream-valley soils of the Groote Molenbeek and Blakterbeek. This contrast provides a way to consider the landscape routes in terms of their different features.

The “Mooiste wandelroute 2010” hiking route passes through the village and countryside of Sevenum and Kronenberg. Along the route are meandering streams, a wildlife observation hut with binoculars, watering spots and an area rich in birdlife. The route thus combines village stretches with specific places for observing nature.

Another route runs from Sevenum through the valley of the Groote Molenbeek and returns through a varied landscape with abundant nature. The two descriptions emphasize different things: one combines the village with observation points, while the other focuses on the valley and the return route. The “Groene Fractie Sevenum” landscape route starts at the market square in Sevenum.

Local history in Sevenum

A monument in the form of a ruin stands at Julianaplantsoen. It was built from rubble stones from the old church tower of the parish church, which was destroyed during the war. The monument also features the propeller of a downed English bomber. In this way, the monument links the architectural memory of the destroyed parish church with a specific object from the war.

Historically, the route from the parish church in Sevenum to Mariakapel in Den Eigen ran via Raadhuisstraat. It followed the street axis between three lime trees and also served as a procession route. This former function distinguishes the historic route from the hiking routes described above.

The Van der Donck family is considered the earliest family of the “Lords of Sevenum.”
