Evertsoord: Golf, Nature and History
Accommodation in Evertsoord
Evertsoord brings together several themes that may be relevant when choosing a destination: golf, cycling, nature and local history. Specific points of interest include two types of golf course, a cycling route through the village and the nearby Mariapeel.
Golf, Cycling and Landscape
De Peelse Golf has an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole par-3 course. The number of holes and type of course give you a concrete first point of comparison if golf is part of your trip. De Peelse Golf welcomes club members, visiting players and interested visitors. As the club’s visitor policies may change, check the current conditions before visiting.
The “Cycling through the Peel and its villages” route passes through Evertsoord. Check the signposting and route along the way. Another point of interest is the De Zwarte Plak area, which lies on the boundary of the parish villages of America, Evertsoord and Kronenberg. Residents and tourists can explore this cultural landscape on foot or by bicycle. This makes it distinct from a named route through the village: it is a landscape area that can be explored in two ways.
The nearby Mariapeel is only partly accessible and includes peat bogs, peat lakes and a patch of woodland. There are also some restrictions on cycling: cycling is permitted on some sandy paths, and you should follow the local signs. If you plan to visit the Mariapeel, take its limited accessibility into account and follow the information provided on site.
Local History and Culture
The Onze Lieve Vrouwe Onbevlekt Ontvangen church was consecrated in 1956. It was intended as a monastery church for the Paters Oblaten van de Onbevlekte Maagd Maria and was part of the “Ter Peel” monastery complex. Its history thus centres not only on the year it was consecrated, but also on its intended function and its connection to the monastery complex.
Construction of the Mariakapel on Paterstraat marked the official beginning of Evertsoord. The chapel is therefore closely linked to the origins of the village, while the church is associated with its intended monastic function and its place within “Ter Peel”. These distinct historical connections help put the buildings in context by considering their respective roles, not just their names.
The Bajescafé combines food and drink with the ongoing “Detentie anno nu” exhibition; exhibition details may change. From April 2022, the Bajescafé was located in a former monastery with an adjoining church. This place therefore brings together a food-and-drink venue, a historic building and an exhibition whose details you can check before visiting.
The Evertsoord Day is also part of village life and is considered an annual highlight. If you want to plan your stay around the event, check the dates for the year you are travelling.
