Trissino combines a hilly, wooded municipal landscape with buildings from several centuries and recurring festival and sporting events. If you are planning a hotel stay, you can first decide whether architecture and local history or a particular event date should be the focus of your trip. The buildings mentioned range in date from a medieval complex to a church inaugurated in 1971; the events take place in summer and autumn.

Landscape and Character

The municipal area lies about 140 metres above sea level and covers 21 square kilometres. It is mostly hilly, with extensive woodland. The Agno stream runs through the municipal area. Together, these features give a concrete impression of Trissino’s landscape: hills and woodland are as much a part of it as the course of the stream. The elevation and area help put the size of the municipality into perspective, while the Agno provides another geographical reference point.

Villas and Churches from Different Centuries

The villas differ in age. Villa Trissino, Da Porto, now Marzotto, was completed in the 18th century to a design by Francesco Antonio Muttoni. Villa Trissino Paninsacco is one of the two surviving villas from a medieval complex in Trissino. These represent two different historical references: the medieval complex and the completion of a villa in the 18th century.

The churches also reflect different periods. The parish church of Sant’Andrea in Trissino contains a holy water font dated 1274 and a 15th-century statue of the Madonna delle Grazie. The parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena in the hamlet of Selva was built in the early 14th century. The church of San Pietro Apostolo in Trissino, inaugurated in 1971, was built by Francesco Vacchini to a design by Antonio Nervi. These dates provide points of reference if you would like to place Trissino’s architectural history in chronological context.

Festivals and Sporting Events

A municipal overview updated on 19 August 2024 lists Una Giornata in Villa Marzotto as an annual event in July. It names the Festa del Gnocco as an annual local festival in September, linked to the area’s culinary tradition. The overview also lists an international ski-roll race in October with Società S.A.V. di Vicenza. The events have different focuses: one is associated with Villa Marzotto, another with local food culture, and the third is an international sporting event. Check the dates of future editions separately.

More Things to Do

The Team Mountain Bike Trissino meets on Sunday mornings in both summer and winter. If you are considering taking part, check the arrangements in advance. This regular schedule differs from the festivals and sporting events tied to specific months.

Beyond individual buildings and activities, Trissino is part of an intermunicipal museum system comprising seven municipalities in the western Vicentino area. The system aims to improve the management of the region’s archaeological and natural heritage. This adds a regional perspective on these two areas to the local history.
