Solagna offers concrete starting points for a trip focused on heritage and trails. Sacred architectural history, former industrial uses and named routes provide different perspectives. This can help you decide in advance whether you mainly want to discover historic places or learn about a range of trail destinations.

Eremo di San Giorgio and Chiesa di Santa Giustina

The Eremo di San Giorgio sits at an altitude of 460 metres on a rock and on a ridge that forms a natural barrier on the left bank of the Canale di Brenta. The earliest reliable documentary evidence of the hermitage dates from 1571. It can only be reached on foot via a well-maintained path; the walk from the town of Solagna takes about 30 minutes. You can factor this walking time into your visit plans.

The Chiesa di Santa Giustina also has a long history: it is considered the oldest church known to exist in the Canale di Brenta and dates back to the early Christianisation of the area. It was rebuilt around 1850. The church houses a depiction of Saint Justina by Francesco da Ponte il Vecchio. The site thus combines early religious history with a specific work of art and a later reconstruction.

Industrial history and historical collections

The Filanda Secco illustrates how a building’s use can change over time. It was built in 1852 as a silk spinning mill and converted into a tobacco depot and warehouse in 1895. The two dates mark different periods in its history: first, use for silk processing, and later, tobacco storage.

La Calcara di Solagna offers another insight into local industrial history. The restored second lime kiln is near the ruins of the Torre di Solagna. The site also includes an artificial cave that served as a powder magazine for the quarry. The lime kiln, tower ruins and cave are therefore located close to one another, while the cave’s former function also recalls the work carried out in the quarry.

The Piccolo Museo 1915-1918 “Roberto Favero” is located at Albergo S. Giovanni, Via Collalto 28. Its collection includes uniforms, helmets, weapons, badges, personal belongings and other relics from troops of all nationalities represented in the conflict on the Colli Alti. These items offer different ways into the history, from military equipment to personal belongings. The Immacolata-Concezione festival in Solagna is also associated with the “sagra del mandorlato”, giving the celebration a specific culinary connection.

Finding your way among walking and cycling routes

The walking routes have different stated starting points and destinations. Sentiero CAI 944 starts in Località Mattecci and leads to the Eremo di San Giorgio and the Cresta di San Giorgio. Connecting trail 940 links Campo Solagna and Finestron; this connection runs between Solagna and San Nazario. The stated destinations help distinguish the routes without implying that they follow the same path.

The RV 9 – Brenta Veneto route offers a different focus: within the municipality of Solagna, it follows the road to Campese. This means that, alongside the walking routes, information about a cycling route is also available. When weighing up your options for a stay, you can use the destinations and the type of route as practical guides rather than treating the routes as interchangeable options.
