Creazzo: Hill Walks, Broccolo Fiolaro and Architectural History
Accommodation in Creazzo
Creazzo combines walks in the hills with a local vegetable heritage and several historical cultural connections. Three questions can help you plan your trip: Would you like to spend time outdoors, learn about Broccolo Fiolaro as a seasonal specialty, or explore the history of the churches and architecture? For walks, starting points and approximate durations offer practical guidance; the local specialty also gives your plans a clear seasonal rhythm.
Walks in the Hills and Along the Retrone
The hills of Creazzo have easy nature trails and quiet roads suitable for walking. Two loop routes have clear start and end points. One easy loop starts and ends at Piazza Roma. It follows Sentiero Bastiana, Via S. Ulderico, Via Sponsaora, Sentiero Pizzamerlo, Via Pozzetto and Via Bastiana. The loop takes about one hour.
Another easy loop starts and ends at Parco Rivella. It follows Via Rivella, Via Quaglie, Trodo Bianco, Via Campignardi, Sentiero Broggiadoro, Via Broggiadoro, Via Quaglie again and Via Rampa. It takes about an hour and a half. The loop from Piazza Roma is therefore about half an hour shorter than the one from Parco Rivella.
The path along the River Retrone is currently accessible. It runs along the left bank from the area of the bridge at the end of Via Palladio, near Parco Doria, to the junction with Via Torino. Check local conditions before setting out.
Broccolo Fiolaro Through the Year
Broccolo Fiolaro di Creazzo is a variety of broccoli listed among Veneto’s typical products. It is grown in the chalky, sandy white soils of the hills of Creazzo in the Province of Vicenza. Harvesting takes place from November to February, after the first frosts. In cooking, the shoots that grow along the stem and the youngest leaves are considered the best parts of the vegetable.
The Broccolo Fiolaro Festival takes place every year in early February, during the harvest period. About twelve local restaurateurs take part; participating businesses may vary. If you are planning your trip specifically around the festival, check the date for that year.
Church History and Frescoes
The architectural history of the Church of Sant'Ulderico includes two rebuilding phases: the building was rebuilt in 1630 and again between 1831 and 1842. A first church dedicated to Saint Cipriano already existed in Creazzo before the year 1000.
Villa Suppiej also has an art-historical connection: its main salon is decorated with frescoes depicting epic and mythological subjects.
