Discover Gallio: Nature, Trails and History
Accommodation in Gallio
Gallio brings together mountain trails, striking natural landmarks and history. If you are looking for a hotel in Gallio, start by deciding what matters most to you: exploring trails, discovering landforms, learning about cultural history or joining guided e-bike experiences.
Trails and Landscapes
Gallio’s mountain trails include mule tracks built by soldiers during the First World War. You can explore these routes on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. On the Percorso didattico della Val di Nos, forest trails pass information boards and picnic areas. Here, nature and learning along the route take centre stage.
The Percorso ciclo-pedonale della Pace is near the centre of Gallio. The Valle dei Mulini has a network of trails for walks through places of historical and scenic interest. The routes therefore differ in their location and character: one is near the centre, while the Valle dei Mulini combines walking with history and landscapes.
Distinctive natural formations also shape the surrounding area. Near the Santuario della Madonna del Buso is a narrow canyon carved into the rock by the Frenzela stream. In the Stoccareddo area of Val Frenzela stands Spitzknotto, a large rock with an altar-like shape, also known as Spizegonotto. At Melette di Gallio, monumental, centuries-old beech trees known as “le Puche” stand tall. The Cimbrian name means “beech”.
Cultural History Along the Way
The mills in the Valle dei Mulini processed grain from the Altopiano. They also powered Pestascorze machines used to produce tannin for leather tanning. The valley’s walking trails through historically and scenically interesting places therefore offer a concrete insight into the work once carried out in its mills.
The Sentiero del Silenzio runs through the forest near Campomuletto and recalls the events of the First World War that shaped the Altopiano di Asiago between 1915 and 1918. Libr'Albero offers another way to remember the past: it is a work of art and a reading retreat on the route to Monte Longara in Gallio. It was made from the trunk of a centuries-old spruce that fell during Storm Vaia in autumn 2018. Carvings depict local wildlife, and a small display case holds books by Mario Rigoni Stern and other stories about the mountains.
The rebuilt Santuario della Madonna del Buso was inaugurated and blessed on 27 May 1927. It is dedicated to the Madonna del Caravaggio. According to historical accounts, the sanctuary was a particular destination for pilgrims on 26 May and 26 July. The site thus brings together architectural history, religious dedication and a longstanding pilgrimage tradition.
E-Bike Experiences and Winter Sports
For 2026, Le Melette offers four guided e-bike experiences. They start at the E-Bike Welcome Desk at Località Melette 1 in Gallio. Certified AMI guides lead the rides across pastures, historic mule tracks and nature trails. The gourmet tour combines e-bike riding with breakfast at a mountain hut and lunch at a mountain farm or traditional hut, featuring local products from a short supply chain. Availability, formats and booking details may change seasonally. Check the current offer before a future visit.
The winter sports venues also differ in their location relative to the town. The alpine ski slopes of Melette 2000 are in the municipality of Gallio, about 4.5 km from the town centre. The Valle dei Trampolini at Pakstall is about 1 km from the town centre. It has ski jumping hills, including the K95, and has hosted international competitions. Based on these approximate distances, the Valle dei Trampolini is closer to the centre than the ski slopes of Melette 2000.
