Sant'Alberto is a hamlet of Zero Branco. Its religious architecture and art, the memory of Maddalena Volpato and two events reveal different sides of the place. The Church of Sant'Alberto and the Oratorio di San Girolamo represent different periods of construction; the Sagra Paesana is an annual summer festival, while the route details for “4 passi par pair” refer to the 2023 edition.

Religious architecture and art

The Church of Sant'Alberto Vescovo e Martire is dedicated to Saint Albert, bishop and martyr. It was rebuilt and reconsecrated in 1621; in 1883, it was consecrated again in honor of Saint Alberto. The church houses the painting “Madonna del Rosario e i Santi Rocco, Sebastiano, Lorenzo e Domenico di Guzman” by Bartolomeo Orioli (1567–1629).

The Oratorio di San Girolamo was built by the Borsa family between 1747 and 1757. Its construction took place between the church's rebuilding in 1621 and its reconsecration in 1883. It has a marble altar dedicated to Saint Jerome; the altarpiece depicts the Madonna and Child with saints. The dedication of the altar has a thematic connection with the chapel dedicated to Saint Jerome, not far from Maddalena Volpato's birthplace.

For art enthusiasts, the two religious sites are clearly distinct: the church stands out for its consecration history and Orioli's painting, while the Oratorio is notable for its construction by the Borsa family and its furnishings, including the altar and altarpiece.

Maddalena Volpato and places associated with her

Maddalena Volpato was born in Sant'Alberto on 24 July 1918. A short tour of her roots described in February 2024 led from her rural birthplace in Bertoneria, no longer in use today, to the cemetery in Sant'Alberto. Bertoneria is about three kilometers from the center of the hamlet of Sant'Alberto. Her remains have rested in the cemetery since November 1972. Her birthplace, the nearby chapel and the cemetery thus provide several concrete local connections to her story.

Summer festival and regional cuisine

The Sagra Paesana di Sant'Alberto is an annual summer festival in the hamlet of Sant'Alberto, in Zero Branco, in the Marca Trevigiana. Dates and program vary by edition. According to the announcement for the 2026 edition, a food stand serving traditional dishes from Veneto was open every evening. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition. The festival adds a seasonal occasion featuring traditional Venetian cuisine to the area's religious history.

“4 passi par pair”: routes and scenery

At the 26 December 2023 edition of “4 passi par pair,” participants could choose routes of 5, 8 or 12 kilometers; the longest was more than twice the length of the shortest. Routes and participation requirements may differ for later editions. This edition was open to everyone, including families with strollers, wheelchair users and people with leashed dogs. The routes at the time ran along the banks of the Zero and Rio Vernise, passed through cultivated fields and the Montiron Oasis, and also included the Green way.
