Vedelago can be considered from two perspectives when planning a trip: its architectural and local history, and the natural landscape of the Sile Springs. In the centre, the Church of San Martino Vescovo shapes the townscape. Villa Emo is near Fanzolo, within the municipality of Vedelago, while the GiraSile runs through the Sile Springs landscape. This offers a thematic guide when looking for a hotel: first consider whether historic buildings or nature will play a greater role in your stay.

Churches and Local History

The Church of San Martino Vescovo dominates the centre of Vedelago. The present church was designed by architect Luigi Candiani in 1926. Another landmark in the local architectural history is the Oratory of San Mamante: it stands on the east side of Via Montegrappa, not far from Via Postumia, and has been documented since the 13th century. The town therefore brings together different periods without suggesting that the buildings share the same history.

Villa Zuccareda is also part of this picture. The 18th-century building is near the town hall, belongs to the municipality and was recently restored. It was previously owned by the noble Zuccareda family from Treviso. The villa thus connects local architectural history with the story of a family from Treviso; its location near the town hall also provides a clear landmark in the centre.

The dates offer a concise comparison: the oratory has been documented since the 13th century, Villa Zuccareda dates from the 18th century, and the present church was designed in 1926. If you are interested in how the buildings developed, you can consider these different historical reference points side by side, rather than reducing Vedelago’s local history to a single period.

Villa Emo and Palladian Architecture

Villa Emo is a Venetian villa by Andrea Palladio (1508–1580), located near Fanzolo in the municipality of Vedelago. Since 1996, it has been included, together with other Palladian villas in Veneto, on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This example therefore brings together two perspectives: its attribution to Palladio and its joint listing with other villas as part of a heritage site of broader significance.

The villa’s layout comprises a three-storey central block and two colonnaded barchesse, complemented by two dovecotes. These elements offer specific architectural points of reference: alongside the central block, both barchesse and the towers form part of the described complex. This makes it possible to understand the villa not only through its name or attribution, but also through its named architectural features.

GiraSile and the Sile Springs

The GiraSile runs through the natural landscape of the Sile Springs between Casacorba di Vedelago (TV) and Torreselle di Piombino Dese (PD). Porta dell’Acqua, at the Botanical Garden, is the starting point of the route. This gives Vedelago’s natural side both a named trail through the landscape and a specific starting point.

Porta dell’Acqua and the Botanical Garden cover a total of 16,000 square metres. Of this, 13,000 square metres belong to the Sile Botanical Garden. The figures therefore distinguish the area’s total size from the area specifically assigned to the garden. Together with the starting point of the GiraSile, they provide a tangible connection to the Sile Springs landscape without conflating the route with the garden.

Choose Vedelago to Suit Your Interests

If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Vedelago, you can start by choosing according to your main interest. For architecture and history, the villas, the church and the oratory offer different points of reference and time periods. If you are more interested in the landscape, the focus is on the GiraSile and its route through the Sile Springs. This connects your choice of destination with a specific travel idea: exploring historic buildings or making the named natural landscape the focus of your visit.
